Importing Video Games

Right, I'm a bit of a gamer when I have some spare time, but I've been generally horrified by the prices of console and PC games in Swiss stores and Swiss online stores, so much so that I considered selling my 360 and PS3.

Amazon.de ship to Switzerland but charge a lot for it.

Then I came across this site, which has a good reputation according to Web of Trust; http://www.yesasia.com/global/en/home.html

Free International shipping on orders over $39! So for example Deus Ex would be 32 CHF, which is about 40CHF cheaper than I've seen it anywhere in Switzerland, plus it will be in English!

I've had a google for tax on importing video games but couldn't find anything, does anyone know anything about it?

Re: Importing Video Games

I import games on a regular basis from sites like play.com, thehut.com and base.com. I usually buy older games in the price range of 15 to 20 Euro though. But the few times I paid 40 to 45 Euro for a new game I never had to pay any import tax!

The good thing about the ridiculous prices here for games is that you can sell them on sites like ricardo.ch for almost the same price you imported them for, sometimes even more

For UK games and Blu-rays: amazon.co.uk, base.com , play.com .
For American games and Blu-rays: planetaxel.com.

although a supporter of game pirating (of course I would never do it myself).

I was told that Batman Arkham Asylum was a fabulous game, but near to impossible to beat if one had a pirated copy. I will purchase Arkham city when it comes out

Re: Importing Video Games

I usually use amazon.co.uk and so far didn't have any problem with delivery and you can get good deals on some promotions.

Just be careful when importing, Above a certain value and customs might send you a little gift home before the package.

Re: Importing Video Games

You're damn right. I was in a store today looking for Lego Star Wars for my son (not me, honest) and the prices were crazy!

Thankfully, I visit the UK once in every six weeks and can pick up what I want on those visits. If anyone in ZRH wants me to pick up anything for them around late September PM me and I'll do so.
