Well, it's the only part I like!

Don't recall any religious wars within TI, either!

TI is great, the rest SUCKS!

Tom
And here is a perfect exemple of what it looks like when perspective is missing!

So to answer DB's question, I'll say st2lemans doz not haz it.

Reading this forum, one gets the impression that life in Switzerland is a maelstrom of nasty neighbours, rude shopkeepers, useless parents, pursed-lipped bureaucrats, aggressive xenophobes and vicious cynophobes.
......

So - on balance - do you think life in Switzerland is as bad as we paint it, or do you think our view of the country is skewed by having access to many more stories of personal experience than we might normally enjoy?
Aww, DB, C'mon, I almost groaned you for this one

My post count is less than yours, but I probably spend as much time as you on the forum, it is sort of a lens through which I look at life in CH. Trust me, it's my third year now, I still see CH as a land of milk and honey, where people climb incredibly beautiful mountains, cycle longer and higher in a day than I can drive a car, food's expensive but first-rate and worth the price (and beer is cheaper than water ), extremely courteous people, such an easy, safe life if you stay on the right side of law, which is not so hard at all... in short I still see CH as a fantasyland.

Are we reading the same forum Okay, I do sometimes read the "dark side of life in CH": laundry issues (personally never had an issue and this is my third home here), dog issues, speeding fines, cheating spouses etc., but those I read mostly as popcorn material on a boring day.

I am Indian, and visited US and have some idea about life in UK, my own view is these countries are all pretty much under-developed in comparison to Swissland.

I until 2008 fully and up from 2002 partially lived in a place with a view onto the lake, but for practical reasons in 2009 moved to Glattbrugg. As I do not like mountains I can do without the view onto mountains but I miss the lake. I get downtown to the lake at least once per week, and have a picture of the view onto the lake just beside my bed ONE thing however in favour of my new place is that it is sunnier than whatever I have had before
I can quite understand your yearning for the lake. We had a great view of the Lac Leman and the majestic Mont Blanc from our apartment in Nyon. Breathtaking! The present place has a full view of the Jura range, although not quite as nice as the lake view, still very appealing.

Now talking of perspective again, in how many countries around the world can you be so close to nature and take the lakes, mountains and woods for granted?

Now if that were true you would not be commiting the cardinal sin of calling the mighty CH "Swissland"

Re: Perspective: doz we haz it?

A view of the Lake is indeed lovely. But at what price?
Many Lake location have a lot of fog and spent the whole winter under clouds- I would go nuts! Drive up the mountains and you get blue skies, with extraordinary light. The other price is space. I'd much rather have space, a garden, no neighbours looking into my windows, no noise- than a view of any Lake. Much easier to drive to the lake from time to time- and of course with the massive savings on rental or purchase - quality of life is much much better. Choices to be made, as always.

Having lived for four years up north (ZH) before moving south 21+ years ago, I have an EXCELLENT perspective!

Dude! I was just making a joke! Your answer was just perfect for DB's question...

You have no idea how much I wished we were on the Italian side.

Same here on Walensee, north of the Alps. When the locals cannot see the mountains for three full days per year they call it a foggy year. And we have palm, orange and fig trees too, not only in pots, mind you. So there.

Back to the E.F. . I do NOT oppose negative judgments about Switzerland, but I oppose
A) judgments based on info no CH would dare to put forward out of fear to be labelled as "mentally challenged"
B) judgments put forward in total disregard of what things are like in countries extremely well known to CH-people (GB/F/D/I)
C) judgments which are factually completely wrong
I believe that people from GB/F/D/I would tell you the same about you falling in B and C and ending up in A.
