Re: Shoes pilling up

Back home no one gets beyond the entrance with their shoes. You are expected to remove your outside shoes, place them in the entrance of a home (but inside, not on the staircase) and walk barefooted/sockfooted/slipperfooted inside.

If you try getting inside my mother's home in outside shoes, you'll be kicked out of the house at broom poking...

Offering guests house-shoes I have seen for the first time in Germany. In my home either you come prepared or you walk on socks (or you get poked out of the house with a broom hihihihi)!

But yes, living on the top floor, I do share the predicament of having to smell the "eau-de-pied" cologne from 6 other apartments, plus the extension of the living room to the staircase in the form of mouldy furniture monstrosities. I've thought about secretly calling the fire department, but I keep reading in EF I should be a good neighbour...

I grow up with slippers in the house. My Grandma made them in phantex. Which made me some very bad bruises. Not the best to wear on a shinny wood floor.... I still have many from her.

We also have slippers for guests and I do request people coming in to take off their shoes.
Same here. In my country when you're a host, you have to provide slippers for your guest. Otherwise, you have to allow them to have their shoes on, thing most of people deeply dislike. (anyways people will offer to take their shoes off)
I don't mind Swiss customs.

I'm going to get a supply of these in men's and women's sizes and wait to see the looks on the faces of people coming for dinner when I solemnly insist on people wearing slippers in the house...

As a fan of movies from the 40's/50's, I'd wear them gladly... (might ruin your parket though!)

Ha ha, not those Sandgrounder, not those...
Though in a way I see your point, IT IS a bit ridiculous, when someone comes elegantly dressed for dinner...Younger people looove American culture so they are O.K. if you walk around in their precious liitle appartment with your shoes on..
