Computers?

I've done a search, and the only I found was last posted in during 2006, so it might be a bit dated!

I'm sure many of you are familiar with PC Specialist in the UK. You can pretty much tell them what components you want and they'll build it.

I'm looking for a similar shop in Switzerland (preferably with a site that lets you experiment with different configurations) does anyone know of any?

Someone told me to go to STEG. I went in a local store with the intention of speaking to the staff, but after having a quick look at their prices I decided they are...out of touch with reality. They seem to be the equivalent of PCWorld in the UK.

Re: Computers?

Have you tried Digitec.ch? They have a pretty comprehensive online store, as well as a shop. I've not been there personally myself though, so I'm not sure of the expertise of the staff.

Are you looking to build it yourself or do you want someone to build it for you ? Why don't you use PC Specialist and print off a spec. PM me if you need a builder/configurator.

The trouble with menu builds is that it can be very easy to overspec and they don't always keep up with latest hardware.

Re: Computers?

Yea, I'm going to buy some parts from them in the near future, but they don't really do what I want.

They sell lots of branded machines, which never have an all round spec and are generally overpriced.

I might give up and build one myself (I'm looking for the SO), but the problem with that is (and i've been through this too many times) dealing with individual orders of each component and stuff that is broken out of the box and having to send it back and so on.

@ UptheHatters - thanks for the offer - I'm comfortable with building my own (used to do that for a living), I just find it to be more hassle than its worth a lot of the time.

Something else I haven't really seen here are motherboard + ram + cpu bundles.

Re: Computers?

I use DELL for the RIP and colorstations I recommend.
You can get order it to your specs no problems. Cheap enought too.

Dell are simply not flexible enough with their customisations.

Think i'll be ordering parts from digitech and building manually. Thanks guys.

PC Hai are pretty good too, they carry some components that digitec don't (e.g. a much bigger range of Supermicro m/boards)...

Re: Computers?

I have been building my own machines for quite a few years and have always managed to get what I wanted at an appropriate price. For a while now prices on computer components in Switzerland have been more or less equivalent to prices as in other lands.

You can find about all you can imagine over Toppreise - http://www.toppreise.ch/grp1_1.html

Digitec has a good rep, Steg is ok with some limitations, but there are many choices. I usually order from places I know in my area and go pick the stuff up, paying cash.

Re: Computers?

pcp.ch and digitec.ch are pretty good. I tried to buy a computer from digitec. Their price is lower compare to pcp and steg.
