Anybody had the labor census phone call?

I just talked to them yesterday. Funny little incident at the end.
Lots of questions about your job, pay, training/education, hours worked, etc etc. At the end of it, as the lady (who sounded very much Indian) was explaining that they would be calling me a few more times over the next few months, I commented that it seemed I had already done this because all of these questions were very similar to the series of longer phone interviesws that I got from the Swiss govt last year. She explained that that series of calls was probably the census (I'm not sure at this point) and that this was different. At this point she said something to the effect of "We are very efficient here in Switzerland. This is not Greece, you know". I was like "What?...um....ok" I'm thinking...what if I was Greek? Yeah, I know I told you I was American but I might easily be an American of Greek descent. Being a bit taken aback by that comment, I didn't follow up with the obvious question: If you're so efficient, why am I answering the same questions all over again?

We give all "surveys", "research", telemarketing calls, et cetera ad nauseum very short shrift, NO INTEREST!

There is no way of knowing who they really are, what they are up to, what they really do with what you give them, etc., but you can be reasonably sure that when you open Pandora's Box, you are going to have a helluva time shutting it again.

Uh, this is the Swiss gov't and they send you a letter before the call with a confirmation code. I do believe it is also mandatory. It's not a marketing survey.

As I recall, we got a letter sounding like what you are referring to about a year ago, though it didn't seem distinctly official. We still said no, said put it in writing per snail mail, and never heard from them again.

darn... I must be missing out on all the fun...

been here over a decade, and never, never received such a survey... they would probably know I'd let where to fly their kite ( if it is indeed real )..

Re: Anybody had the labor census phone call?

I had my call a couple of weeks ago. They phone around every 4 months or so and it's only around 10 mins so I'm not too fussed. I also thought it was compulsory and didn't know I could opt out.

Just curious, do they still just call landlines? What about ex-directory mobiles? Only wondering as I don't have the landline and wondered if that excludes me from the labor force....

Don't know. They've only ever called my land line.

Same for me. They are very persistent. I can't recall the amount of time I have said "now is not a good time", and then they politely say we will call back another time. ...and they do.

They seem to pull names from the phone book. They once called for the ex-missus as her name was still on my phone book entry. When I explained that she'd never lived at that address they wanted me to give them her contact details. I told them to bugger off.

Re: Anybody had the labor census phone call?

Original post is just another everyday example of Swiss xenophobia I'm afraid!

They don't keep much data between the various calls for confidentiality reasons, hence the need to repeat yourself. I recall refusing to answer some of the more intrusive questions.
