OK, googling the first line shows that the same poem exists in Austria and Germany, so it isn't SVP-specific. Doesn't make it any better though.

Then the title of this thread shouldn't be ''Swiss Poem''...

Might seem like humour to you, my friend, but you need to understand your audience a little better. For a forum dedicated to (largely) foreigners living in what is arguably* one of the institutionally least tolerant countries to non-indigenous people (judging by the position of SVP as the most supported party), there is a massive sensitivity here to anything which might be construed as racist or xenophobic.

So I suggest that you take the feedback and continue what has been a good start to your EF life with some interesting threads and posts, and don't dig the hole deeper by suggesting that nationalistic views can be funny

* I know it isn't like that day to day, and there are many other threads devoted to the topic, I'm just giving one view
Point taken and thank you.

I'm old enough (but not yet wise enough) to know when I've overstepped the mark, which I have done in this case.

My sincere apologies to anyone who was offended by this thread.

Re: A Swiss Poem

what's interesting is that foreigners here are offended by the text. But what % of Swiss people would agree with it, secretely or not?

I do believe that a lot of them just laugh ... they are actually funny little anecdotes about day to day life in a country.

There are even jokes written in SwissGerman about the Swissgermans......

Every country has "jokes" about other race groups, or language speakers.

The "Irish" jokes.....
The "van der Merwe" jokes in SA....
The Catholic/Jew jokes .....
The "country bumpkin/city slicker" ones .....

Well I am only 1 Swiss - but I really do not find this kind of 'humour' funny, secretly or otherwise. Thanks for accepting you've overstepped the mark- enjoy Switzerland and all who sail in her.

I think it was an unfortunate mistake.
