A lot of persons, including families with children, live with less than that, even in Geneva!

Of course you can live with that, but you must plan a careful budget and stick to it!

In what fantasy world do you live? I buy you lunch if you show me even 3 generations under one roof in Geneva.

We have a car and it costs about 300chf a month to run (servicing, fuel, insurance) but we don't have to pay parking.
You need to include purchase & depreciation costs. A set of winter tyres will cost 300+, I don't accept you can own & run a car for 300 month, I spend mare than that on petrol.

I cant believe a service costs under 500 either. 3rd Party insurance & annual charge for plates must be 100 month.

5700.-/months for 2 persons!!! We have a little bit more, not much, and we have 2 kids and a dog! And I save a bit each month, and we go on holidays once a year, and don't spend our time looking under the sofa for loose change! And Lausanne is only a little bit cheaper than Geneva...

well if you move to Switzerland that is what the prices are. dont matter where you come from. And I dont want to go in discussion with you as in the past we have seen what that gets us.
So I gave my opinion, you gave your premeditated one once again (that im a rich kid blablabla) so lets leave it at that

exaggaerating, yes, but i want to say that one should check how these peeps manage to live by 5700 in geneva/switzerland. some pay only 900chf rent as they live since ages in that place, since generations. family can help on child care. shopping has to be planned on special offers, germany and/or france trips, beer with mates...sorry guys, have to hurry. cooking from scratch, occasionally meat (not too bad to reduce meat consumption i think), insurances have to be basic, etc.,tec. you can manaage but at what cost. keep that in mind too....

I have a Ford Fiesta, go to Euromaster for my service and tyre changes, and have the cheapest insurance in CH (Smile direct, 475.-/year). I count 100.-/month for petrol, so yes, for me 300/month all included is the truth

What about buying the Fiesta? it's not included in the costs.
The cam belt change will cost you 1000-2000chf when it's due.

another possibility. how much do you keep at the end of the month now?
double that and add some change and that will (could) give you a rough estimate. In Belgium to here for example I do everything x3 price and income wise
While living in France, we spend around 4000CHF per month, including rent of 1130CHF, hot water and other charges of 240CHF, and parking free)

4000 CHF in France is a very high salary. I would commute from Annemasse.

2. If we move to Switzerland from France, will the net income increase or decrease? It will change a lot?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you should have more of an income if you're paying less tax in Switzerland, no?

3. With the company FREE in France, we pay internet+TV+telephone only 30euros every month, how much is it in Switzerland?
I have internet and TV only - all cable channels though - and it's CHF70 a month

Quote:

4. How much for 2 person's medicine insurance? 700CHF per month?
My husband and I have the highest deductible possible (i.e. the cheapest) and we pay CHF400/mth total. Health insurance here really hurts.

I am afraid we can not afford the living in Switzerland with one person's salary.
I have around the same salary and my husband (who also doesn't work) and I (sans kids) do just fine. We live in Nyon in Vaud though - but are still paying CHF2000/mth for our tiny one bedroom place (it's brand new). We don't go out a lot as we prefer to entertain friends at home, but we do get to travel - Italy next month! You'll be fine too.

But you should ask yourself why you want to move to Geneva - is there some advantage to be gained that will make it worthwhile?

Care to back that up with facts?

I started on 6.3 gross, 4.7 net. I could afford an appartment, a (new) Volvo S60T5, health insurance, girlfriend, restaurant dinners, ski holidays & weekends and savings.

Or maybe a wannabe rich kid? I find it utterly hilarious for a single 25 yo to claim to not being able to survive on 6k a month.

Well I had it serviced recently including all the preparation for importation (engine cleaning, official emmissions certificate etc) and it was only 600chf at a recognised dealer. You must drive an awful lot to spend more than 300chf a month on petrol although my car is diesel so is very economical on fuel.

I'll admit that I hadn't included purchase and depreciation costs but even then it's not impossible to run a car sensibly on what I quoted. Oh and we have fully com insurance too.

As I am a non-EU, I need to move to Switzerland with my husband, wait for 4 months to get a B permit, which makes me have the right to work in Switzerland. Before I have a B permit and income (also takes months to find a job), I don't know how hard life I will have in Geneva.

I pay 300 chf a month for helth insurance with only a 300chf deductible.
Don't know why OH chose that option as I haven't been to doctor once since we arrived. Must up the deductible next year I think.

Methinks I should sort out getting a health check before the end of the year with loads of expensive checks (to take me above the 300chf) just so that I feel like I've got something out of it.

Why would you prefer living in Geneva to France?

Actually, i was saying we spend 4000CHF while we live in France, including the apartment in France 1130CHF, charges of 240CHF, parking free. I didn't say we have salary of 4k in France. My husband work in CH, we live in France.

The reason I am considering to move to CH, is because living there, I can get a B permit, so I can work in Geneva. As a non-EU, it is so hard to find a job in Geneva without a work permit. I am so fed up of staying at home and do nothing. So l guess I can get more opportunities of working if I live in CH.
