American parents in the Wallisellen area...beware!

Ok, so yesterday I sat down at Wallisellen Bahnhof to wait for the tram to the Glattzentrum. Sitting near me were two American kids. The one that caught my attention was say 14/15, a little chubby, and I'd say (what is the politically correct thing to say now..) of African or Carribean hertiage.

This boy then proceeded to tell the other much younger boy about how he once hid his webcam somewhere above his Mom's computer/laptop, so he could see what she was typing- in order to obtain all of her passwords! Apparantly he frequently checks emails and bank accounts! I thought he was bullsh*tting at first, but he sounded dead pan serious!

Just thought I'd share this as a sort of warning...if you're parents of a child even roughly fitting this description it may be time to change your bank details!

Re: American parents in the Wallisellen area...beware!

Given that non-US folks may have the odd computer or two at home as well (as well as running hot and cold water), I think that sort of warning applies to all parents everywhere.

BTW the correct thing to say if a person is black and from the US is Afro-American and has been for ages. Also, what's wrong with "black"?

Not quite seeing the American angle on this one. Wouldn't you care to include the other 96% of the world's parental population on this one?

How can you hide a webcam , and still get a readable view of the keyboard...?

Just a kid, any old kid, talking rubbish if you ask me.

Re: American parents in the Wallisellen area...beware!

I think OP was intending on posting a personal warning to the parents of the American boy she overheard. Of course this warning applies to all folks but I understand why she specified American.

So, a fat, black American teenage bullsh!tter?

Anyone got one of those in the house?

I used to have one but I traded it in for an i-pod.

Ok I didn't intend to cause a debate on what is or isn't politically correct but more share something that amused me and may or may not be true

Isn't it a big fail, though? If the webcam is connected to the parent's computer it wouldn't become active until after the initial password to get into the computer has been typed.

Kind of "fall at the first fence"?

Does this mean I have to brush my hair and put on make up before sitting in front of the computer?

Re: American parents in the Wallisellen area...beware!

Back in England, I used to work with children new to the country, most of whom were, well, what's the politically correct term? Foreign, I think.

Anyway, I've always believed in plain speaking, tempered with good manners. Apparently, that wasn't enough for some of my colleagues.

Lunchtime supervisor: "One of your kids has been hitting the other children."

Me: "Oh yes? Which one?"

LS: "The one in the red jumper."

Me: "Er, that's the school uniform. There are 300 children in red jumpers. Could you be more specific?"

LS: "The, you know, the short kid."

Me: "There are several dozen short children in the playground. More specific?"

LS: "Er, you know, the er, the kid with the, er, the kid with the curly hair..."

Me: "Oh, the little black kid? Yeah, that's George. I'll have a word with him..."

Sensitivity is one thing, but some people are just silly. Or should I say, "commonsensically challenged"?

Unless, of course, it is hooked up to his own machine..

Ceiling cat and all that?

I also think he was a bit of a bullshitter.

Re: American parents in the Wallisellen area...beware!

If true, seems pretty benign. Wouldn't banking passwords/info be useless unless said kid has another independent account into which to move money (doubtful given his age)?

More worrisome (for his parents, at least) might be what else he is positioning that webcam to catch, to be honest.

BTW, IMO your thread title is a bit over-the-top; I was expecting some big threat against all American kids in Wallisellen.

I'd actually pictured hordes of rampaging American parents, running amok in Migros and talking in loud American accents about how it's not like this back in Kentucky and gosh, and isn't the meat expensive here, I could buy a whole roast hog and still have change from $5 back in Milwaukee.

You should have known that wasn't the case; there's no time for rampage when one needs to get home to post in Complaints Corner!

Back in my day, it was simpler. I just read the passwords off the yellow post-its that my parents stuck on the side of the monitor.

No... in America, we don't actually BUY our meat. We just shoot squirrels in the back yard.
