So anyway, what's the first thing I think?
Probably: "Please don't let them confiscate all my fillet steak, lamb, pork, tunnocks caramel wafers, Crunchie biscuits, malt loaf, bacon, chocolate, sausages, cheese, lobsters,..." | The following 8 users would like to thank for this useful post:

Landed in Zurich several hundred times and every time I can't help thinking of the Stadlerberg accident when we pass over....

Honestly ? I whisper a prayer of thanks for the landing and can't wait to switch to French, which means home to me.

Surprisingly, nobody mentioned it in 3 pages.
My first thought was 'where are all the people'.
Guess what, I landed on a Sunday morning and I did not see more than 5 people walking on streets in 3 hours. I was like there is a curfew or something today.
No marks for guessing, I was coming from India.
cheers

I was at a window but didn't see anyone. Is this true? | | | | | I don't know if the locals do (though it wouldn't surprise me), but the pilots pretty much do
I put a few explanations in (brackets), otherwise this is straight from the Pilot's Mouth... | Quote: | | | | | Sat in the afternoon at innsbruck - clear day landing on 08 with a stiff breeze down the runway. No fohn conditions or turb noticed on our arrival.
About 10 minutes later a ba73 (British Airways 737) arrived and when turning finals went around. Fair enough. Second approach at about downwind he/she went around again. He/she then positioned to land on 26 with a v.stiff tailwind. Needless to say we all went out to watch.
...
Anyway the main point of this drivel is that on the second goaround, a 757 was descending into the valley from KTI (a navigation beacon) and ended up also going around. When i first started going to LOWI (Innsbruck airport) about 4 years ago, we were told that the deal with LOWI was that only one aircraft was to manoever in the valley at once. Now, obviously that is not the case as you have aircraft cleared to line up as you are downwind.
Not ideal if you goaround as they get airborne. (Master of the understatement!) | | | | | | This user would like to thank for this useful post:

While we're still in the air, I try to pick out Rigi and Pilatus through the clouds. Once on the ground, same as Sandgrounder, but the train to Luzern. | Quote: | | | | I'm normally trying to work out if I can get the next S16 and how long the passport queue is. | | | | | Only after I'm on the train to Luzern do I think | Quote: | | | | | "nearly home..." | | | | | And once I'm on the bus or train from Luzern to home, my main thoughts are of the bliss of being back in my own bed.

There's a very good reason for it. A picture speaks a thousand works: you're landind down a narrow wee valley surrounded by high mountains with nowhere to go if it alls goes wrong (big diagram), and the window passengers get to see how close to the tops of the mountains you get on the way in and out (bottom right diagram). It's a fine line between the passengers clapping, and the passengers crapping, as they say | | | | | This is why I prefer to take the train from Munich.

"Again a great holiday/travel/journey, lucky me" and,
as a swiss bünzli, I'm already thinking of the bottle of RIVELLA and the RAGUSA chocolate bar I'll buy for the way home (didn't find Rivella in Gloucester nor Ragusa in Buffalo, does anybody know where I could find it ??) |

Well the last and only two times I have flown into Zurich, the first thing I thought of, after spending nearly 29 hours getting here was I can't wait to see my lovely boyfriend and give him a hug and kiss. |

That I'm entering the only airport that my bag ever got opened, stuff taken out of it, loss reported, stuff found eventually and when I went to collect it-was told they can't hold onto stuff forever!!
That's why I always bring my kid on as hand luggage... He's getting a bit heavy but is of great sentimental value to me! | The following 2 users would like to thank mabern for this useful post:
