| | What can you not live without from home?
Hi all,
I'm moving to Switzerland shortly and I have to take everything with me on the train (long story). Anyway - it got me to thinking - what can you not live without from your home/ home country that you would pack? (bearing in mind I am limited to what I can carry)
Yes - I have learnt there is a search function and yes there are threads on what to pack and what you miss. But I'm talking one or two essential items you simply can't live without.
For me, I am not sure what they will be yet so I would be interested to hear what you would take. Although I'll probably end up wanting to pack more than I can carry

I accept that you can't make "builders tea" here though!

iPad/laptop and hrm....sourdough starter. It pays to be flexible and to travel light and, though your needs are few, some of the wants will bug you, especially when they're double the price of anywhere else. If you like living here, you'll gloss over that and, if you don't, you'll be miserable. I'm not a cheapskate and I am rather low maint, but I don't enjoy living here so the wants sometime become a much larger issue than if I did like it here. And, yes, the tea is a bit wanting. | This user would like to thank poptart for this useful post: | | This user groans at poptart for this post:

In other words, what you've asked could also have been incorporated in and covered by that thread... |

Its now 2011 - its a new topic and its a different style of question. Move on. There are many larger things I wish I could take with me but I can't as I have to carry them.

There are always a few things you miss- but nothing you can't do without, honest. In fact I like going home and having the real treat of enjoying things I've missed. As they say 'absence makes the heart and stomach fonder'
Family is the hardest. If I ever go back to the UK, it would be for my grand-children.

Medicine.. that you must bring especially if you catch cold easily etc. Over counter medicine are "eye-watering" expensive, so have a pack of emergencies and stuff that you need like band-aid, eye-drops etc.
Otherwise, get an unlocked phone as well so you can have a PAYG sim. Since you are just arriving, you won't be able to get a contract, so bring one with you. Other than that.. I got my list of stuff but not sure about you as they might be VASTLY different!

A 7 liter V8!
Meanwhile, I'll just have to live with a 1 liter V2 that produces exactly the same power as my '82 Z28 with a 5L V8 !

I think I fail on the start a new thread front - I was interested to know what other people would take given my situation. Not just what I need to take | This user would like to thank for this useful post:

Doubled the HP with minimal cost (cam, carb, exhaust, 7k RPM rev limit instead of OEM 4.5k)
My 999R is still a lot faster than any Z28 could hope to be, though.

A van | | | | | Yes that would be the easy solution, but its very expensive and I'm moving on a limited budget (Zurich sure takes a lot of money out of your account...). Van hire you also have the added cost of plane tickets as the van has to go back to its origin and I'm not sure how long I am staying as it depends how things work out - so I may end up doing the van thing twice. Fingers crossed all works out and I stay longer - in which case, I will get a van.
But for the moment, I am happy to travel light. Its no big deal and I will manage just fine. I was just curious as to what everyone would take given my situation.....

When I moved here in '86, I took a motorcycle, an electric guitar, and a PC (desktop).
