Moving within Switzerland - does the month play any role?

I have a general question. Let's say you may choose between moving within Switzerland (and it is going to change canton as well), is it better to move at the end of year or wait till early next year? I am considering things like the possible tax complication (heard one's registered wohnort at 31.12 is crucial, and if we move to a higher tax canton it might not be a good thing?)

Of course there are factors like 01.04 is the "official" moving date...which means one may find apartment easier. Can you think of any other pro/cons for certain months for moving. Another example: insurance? Would appareciate sharing of a lists or something like that for future newbies to CH, if one can decide when to move....

p/s: Mod: feel free to edit the title of the post as deemed appropriate. Thought to post in Finance section but I thought there might be other things to consider....

Where you live on 31.12.2011 is where you will be taxed for the year 2011, so you should decide which year to move in.

Most contracts state a move in December is not possible.

If you move on the "semi official days" of 1st April or 1st November you will have problems finding cleaners and transport.

Most contracts demand 2 or 3 months written notice before the last working day in the month, so be careful to do the resignation early enough.

Is it really without exception? I thought it would be somehow calculated on a pro-rata basis. Like if I live in Schwyz for 10 months and then move to Vaud at the end of October then my tax rate will be calculated for the whole year based on rate in Vaud?
