Goldfinger and Furka Pass

Last weekend as I was whiteknuckling it down the Furka Pass, we noticed some sign on a shack along the way that said something about "...blah, blah, blah James Bond". I, of course, only had eyes for the puny little barriers to keep the car from plunging into the gorge below, but my husband made note of it and, apparently a scene from Goldfinger was filmed on the stretch of road -

and there's a fun story of how some enthusiasts went to great lengths to recreate the scene in 2009 - http://www.classicandperformancecar....urka_pass.html

I don't think I'd drive that stretch of road even in a db5 and without any traffic at a speed greater than 45km as it's seriously narrow and it's a loooong way down.

Love that road!

(vid doesn't work, but that's an Aston Martin, not a Mustang)

Re: Goldfinger and Furka Pass

The glacier was neat as was the grotto, but the narrow road on the way down really was a bit disconcerting.

What is a 'dramatic' Swiss marmot? Do they study teatre and the arts?

...no, they just hang around in fits a giggles at humans trying to navigate those beautiful winding roads.

The original scene featured James Bond in the DB5 and Tilly Masterson in a Mustang. Ended with the Mustangs sills and tyres being shredded by the extending blades coming out of the Aston's wheel hubs.

Re: Goldfinger and Furka Pass

BMW uses those roads a lot in there photo and vid shoots.
