The happiest Swiss live in... Zug?

Can't recall where I heard it, might even be in Switzerland itself, like a Swiss saying. I am pretty sure I heard it though.

Is this true?

But of course it is!

Truly, I haven't heard of any such saying, but I do love to live here in Canton Zug, so I gladly put in my personally 'Yes'

Re: The happiest Swiss live in... Zug?

A google search for the phrase comes up with a couple of quotations from Zuger sites. Oh then it must be true.

Can't be true, there are no happy swiss. Have a look at the people in the train/tram/bus/car during rush hour.

Swiss people are only happy when they see money, so I guess the happiest of them all are living in Zug or Schwyz indeed

A Swiss girl I used to work with told me the ugliest men in Switzerland come from Canton Zug.

You must be joking. They just don't share your sense of humor.

Please tell me where in the world I should look for smiling faces in the train/tram/bus/car on their way to/from work. I live in Cape Town, with all of that developing world energy, diversity and 'ubuntu', and all I see on my way to work are grim faces.

Re: The happiest Swiss live in... Zug?

Plenty of places with friendly happy smiling people but I hardly see them in Switzerland. I do see serious or sad looking people a lot. I think its a place where people only go if they want to earn a lot of money and the rest is not important. I am surprised how this effects a nation

Re: The happiest Swiss live in... Zug?

I don't get why some people have an issue with the Swiss. I've been here a few months now. I've met a number of Swiss people, and they seem polite. I was joking around with a couple yesterday, and they definitely have a sense of humour.

As for Zug, I can honestly say it's the best place I've ever lived in, and the best place among those where I've visited someone. My quality of life has definitely increased, compared to living in London or Copenhagen.

As a single man, I moved out of Zug to Zurich.

As a more-or-less locked-down man, I moved back to the comfort of Zug. I'm happy here, it all depends what you're looking for.

I enjoy living in Zug for sure. It is not the Mecca of nightlife though.
Single guys and gals probably wouldn't like it as much.

I hope you know there are many foreigners in Switzerland, and they all are happy, polite, helpful, and have a good sense of humor, exactly the opposite of the Swiss. How did you make sure the people you mentioned were Swiss?

Basing the idea on your comments, I do NOT think that YOU are a smiling happy person, but rather have the impression that you are a grumpy, serious and sad looking old git

Swiss people have not to GO to this place, but already are here ! If they want to earn a lot of money they emigrate to other places

If you ever go to other European places like Milano, Lyon, Strassburg, Stuttgart, Konstanz, München, you hardly see the smiling happy faces you mentioned. And you hardly see those smiling people in Paris or London

Re: The happiest Swiss live in... Zug?

We lived in Zurich for 5+ yrs and my cousin lived in Lugano. I much preferred Lugano. Like Italy, but it works! Quite a lot cheaper than Zurich and the food is great. Really enjoyed eating at the Grotto's during the Summer season. They recently moved near Payerne. Beautiful, too, but I miss the Lugano ambiance.
