Agreed to purchase used TV before arriving here

My committment resulted in my possession of a 150 pound albatross-like, ancient Sony. I'm 200 CHF lighter. Yikes, what a lesson.

Now my concern is that I face that tax for having possession of a TV and am wondering how to go about getting rid of it.

I'm not trying to sell it and I realize I may need to incur more funds in getting rid of it. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Electronics stores like Media Markt, Inter Discount or Eshenmoser are obliged to relieve you of your unwanted electronics whether you shop there or not.

Does your recycling center perhaps take old electronics? That would probably be your easiest option.

Re: Agreed to purchase used TV before arriving here

You will probably have to pay "that tax" (Billag) anyway; do you own or have in your possession a radio, smart phone, computer or car? If so, check, you're Billagable.

If you still don't want the TV (I assume it's an old-style CRT unit, right?), I suggest you advertise it on EF once you've accumulated 10 qualifying posts. You may have to give it away free, though, unfortunately.

Sorry ...

Why pay to have it put down by your recycling center when any electronics store is obliged to take it for free?

Rules vary by Canton, but in many places (e.g. OW) there's no charges for anything at recycling centres, or else they have periodic free collections from the street (e.g, BS).

Thanks, I would be very happy to donate it. Wasn't sure there were such facilities in this wealthy country.

If you find it, let me know!

I don't even own a television, but apparently if you have a pulse, then you have the requisite to be Billag-able. I guess they have to tax you in case you watch TV at your friend's house, or happen to catch some music from a car with its window rolled down...
