Looking for Swiss Children's Readers - 1900-05 and around 1940-45

Could anyone guide me to books -- "children's readers" -- widely used to teach elementary-school Swiss children to read? I'm looking books published in either of two time periods, roughly around 1900-05 and around 1940-45. The McGuffey and the Dick-and-Jane books are US examples of the sorts of books I'm looking for.

I'm particularly looking for readings that reflect the culture of the time in select countries. We'll compare the Swiss readings with, e.g. Italian readings, and note the extent to which the content predicts future economic and cultural phenomena. We'll also be studying German and Russian cultures in the same time periods.

References to experts in Swiss reading education would also be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Forum.

This site is really for English speaking people living and working here here so very few members will know anything about Swiss schools in the period you are looking for. We do have over a thousand Swiss members on here, but not many are active and I doubt that many of the active ones are of the period you are looking for or interested in digging up such information. However, you might strike lucky. We have one or two who have done detective work in the past...

For your second time period, ask the people from SJW. They publish small readers since 1932.

Also a very helpful resource is the Pädagogisches Zentrum Basel and its library which has a collection of children readers. Use ALEPH to find what you need.
