birthday party question: Saturday or Sunday?

Is it better to host a child's birthday party on Saturday or Sunday? I know that Saturday is often the day folks get stuff done and Sunday is the day for family stuff so it's a bit hard to choose which day would be better or least inconvenient. Anyone care to share an opinion before I commit to one or the other?

Not sure how kids parties are done here (will find out in a few years), but wouldn't Saturday then be the better day, as parents can drop the kids off at the party & get stuff done? Or do parents generally hang around?
Just a thought, that you could be giving some parents a bit of "free time"...

Depends on the age of the birthday kid. If the guests are small, I think the best is to throw the party on Sunday afternoon, so that they end up their weekend happy. The difficulty with that, is that there is a chance that you ll have the whole family joining the party because it s a Sunday and they want to be together. So you ll have more grown ups. On Saturday, everyone does stuff and in the afternoon it s their only chance to get some rest .

good luck

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday. Never come across a Sunday birthday party in my part of the world (strongly Catholic).

Immaterial of actual birthday day, Weds. afternoon is always favourite, but if you're working .....

I would think Saturday as it gives you Sunday to recover from the mayhem and also if you have a few wines afterwards you have Sunday to recover hehehe.

Re: birthday party question: Saturday or Sunday?

Definitely Saturday. Sunday is family day and you're likely to get lots of refusals if you decide to hold it then. (depends how many kids you want I suppose)
As TIMoW said WEdnesday afternoons are very popular too.

EDIT : Unless of course your kid is in an international school and the children you are inviting are not Swiss in which case a Sunday is fine.

Re: birthday party question: Saturday or Sunday?

It'll be my daughter's 5th birthday so it's the age where parents can drop off their child if they want to and there's a big grocery near the place I want to host it so that's a plus. Wednesday afternoon would be nice, but most of the other mother's are working and the kids in her class would be in daycare after the school day and so wouldn't be able to come. There's a mix of Swiss and other nationalities/religions so it makes it a bit tougher to choose but, given the input, I think I'll go with Saturday as I would like all the kids to come....nobody wants to throw a party and not have kids show up to help celebrate.

Who says I have to wait until after the party?

After spending 2 weeks with my teenage nieces, one of whom (17) I caught sneaking in at 3am on a Saturday while I was up with jet lag, I figure I'll need to move on to whisky at some point before I recover from motherhood. I'll cherish these pleasant little traumas now while I still can.
