You know you are in Switzerland #48

You turn up to test drive a car (one with a "generous" price tag) and realise that your driving licence is nowhere to be found - and in all probability it is lost.

And they still give you the keys

Come on, nowhere else do they just hand over the keys to a car without forms being signed, licence copies being taken - and above all an understanding on the excess on the insurance policy.

People trust this face!!!

Great story, DK.

You know you've been in Switzerland for awhile when the policeman who shows up at your door was the apprentice who used to do your hair at your local salon.

I have never been to Switzerland..
I have heard that this is one of the most beautiful countries in the world...!
Yes yes, one day you too can test drive cars in an alpine village filled with mountain men, free guns, and all you can eat Swiss cheese! Just hop on a plane from the USA and experience what everyone in Texas is talking about.

Was it a BMW dealer? we were also handed the keys to a fully loaded 330d for an entire weekend, and were not asked for our licences or any other form of ID. Test driving cars here is definitely a more relaxed and enjoyable experience, back home you usually have to put up with a salesman babbling away next to you.

Sort of a BMW dealer - let's just say the car had 400ps, 540nm and 4-wheel drive. And looked almost exactly like a normal BMW.

After that Swiss experience - we went the full hog - we bought a new Fondue pan (bugger if I can remember the name of it) - and a new fondue stand - and on Saturday night ate fondue - the one I got for finishing the trans-viamala run last weekend.

All in, it really was a rather pleasant weekend.

The only thing I have to learn is not too put so much wood in the oven - from 19c to 30c in about 30mins

You walk through a local town (Brugg last Saturday) and see an unattended military rucksack on a bench with a big gun sticking out of it and nobody gives it a second glance.

You know that something funny's going on when DodgyKen offers you an almost new 400ps, 540nm and 4-wheel drive BMW-like vehicle for less than half list price, no questions, "just hurry up and gimme the cash" and he takes the garage plates off and disappears over the horizon.

You know you're in Switzerland when you realize your microwave is missing the "popcorn" button and instead has a "mutton" button.

Now I can't stop saying it to myself - "mutton button, mutton button, mutton button."

When you can take a standard lamp worth more than Fr.1000.00 home to see if you like it and the woman in the shop has never seen you before and asks nothing about you. (I bought it afterwards).

I was in a cable car in summer when a woman was asked where she had her rucksack. Her answer; 'I don't need it so I left it down at the bottom, it'll be OK'.
