You were brought up correctly, not dragged up like some.....
That sounds a bit like inverse snobbism to me.

Re: Applying "Make up" in the train

If I am in a rush I have a fairly simple makeup routine, and pack my stuff in my knapsack. If I can find a quiet seat in the train, I apply my makeup, turning away from the people near me. Since I almost always sit at a window seat on a plane, same thing. But if it isn't possible, I find the next clean bathroom. Train bathrooms can be appalling, and if you spend too much time in an airline bathroom, they'll come with handcuffs. And it won't be fun. Of course, after a transatlantic flight any attempts at self-repair are often hopeless without a proper wash.

With you on the pigments, Kittster.

I'm old enough to remember big hair and butane powered portable curling irons and tiny bottles of hair spray. Could never achieve the look anyway. Now that would be inappropriate in a public space, especially whilst smoking.

The things people do in the trains

I was travelling by train yesterday from Zürich to Frauenfeld. A few seats away was a young woman who was cleaning under her fingernails with a cleaning stick. Every time she cleaned a nail she would put the cleaning stick in her mouth and swallow what she had recovered from under the nail. Or she would simply wipe it on her pants. She was completely oblivious of the people sitting around her!
Yuk.

Nothing compared to oral sxx in the train, seen on my first year here. They both just smiled at me and carried on.

That's trains for you.

I still haven't figured out why I see more folks picking their nose in the 1st class, though. And I saw a few eat their buggers, too.

Re: The things people do in the trains

I've seen fingernails come up and I'm definitely guilty to a minor extent here.

I would never do all my nails (i.e. manicure) in public. I do, however, sometimes find a little snag on a nail (catches on clothes or something). So I'll pull out my nail file and quickly smooth it out.

As for seeing women do makeup on the train, I have no problem with it. It's not my thing and I don't have the skills to pull it off anyhow. But I know people with absurdly long commutes and I see no reason for them not to use their train time this way.
