Re: What are your plans for tonight?

I hate NYE, probably because my mum was a surgeon and my father worked in law enforcement (radio engineer) so every year NYE was idiots night out where the drunks drove cars and the stupid (and usually drunk) blew off appendages with fireworks. I have nearly always stayed in on NYE save for Y2K where I rang it in off the grid down under with friends. I still don't quite know what the big deal is if you aren't in Times Square (or some other global city center) as setting off fireworks in some BFN town like my neighbors just did doesn't really do anything except wake the young kids who have just gone to bed and possibly harm the dumb jerk lighting it. I made a nice dinner, drank some wine and played board games for 2 hours ... now I'm just hoping the weather isn't quite so crappy tomorrow so that we can get out of the house for a few hours. Global warming sucks arse.

Happy New Year/Hyvää Utta Vuotta to each and all.

What are your plans for this new years eve that falls very conveniently on a Saturday?
No plans, staying home. Would probably be asleep if not for the fireworks which my neighbours will set off.

Wishing everyone all the best for 2012!

I'll be cocooning at home with all the windows shut, blinds closed, curtains drawn - trying to keep two terrified mutts from barking each time the skies above explode. (Fortunately mutt number three is deaf as a post..)
One of our dogs is deaf and she is still startled by the fireworks. It must be the vibrations. We find it helps to sit with them and watch TV, with the volume a bit louder than usual. We try to act as if nothing is going on, though it is really difficult.

We had a burst of fireworks around midnight - they woke us all up ;-p. Even Lily was fairly calm by then though. We all went back to sleep. Nice and quiet ending to 2011, and a peaceful start to 2012.

Happy New Year!

happy new year everyone!
the rain almost stopped by midnight, and the fireworks were good, rather better than in other years. I was in St. Peter, a bit delayed which was quite good, because, as much as the performance WAS good, a full half hour would have been a bit much. The accoustic there is clearly great. I a bit after midnight stopped at the "Intermezzo" on Gen.Guisan-Quai where the "porch" was open for the general public and there was even a little table (for the smokers) I used to enjoy a bit of Spumante and the view of the fireworks was superb.

My idea was that I had to do something, instead of just doing nothing. Admitted, while at times feeling "youngish" and at others "antique" I am no longer "young" really. As the saying goes "the lacquer is gone"

Cheers & Happy New Year !

Re: What are your plans for tonight?

I finished work and run home to take the mutt out before midnight. Glad i did because the first firework caught us just outside the door. I never seen him running faster inside the building. The flat is well noise insulated though so he was ok. Went to a friends house after that. Tiny party just how i like it. Everybody got drunk. I dont drink but i still had a great time until i couldnt keep my eyes open anymore. Taxi and bed by 5
