i always just take the stuff out and leave it in their basket.
I go that extra mile and actually hang it up for them... I always remove mine as soon as possible after they are done as a courtesy to my fellow neighbours.

Re: The Abandoned Laundry Quandary

but how do you know they want their clothes hung up? Maybe they prefer them from the dryer (assuming there is one)?
and on the flip side, I'd not recommend being generous and putting their things in the dryer either. Might have some things in there that can shrink.

I personally wouldn't like someone to hang my things. I am certainly not OCD, but I have a particular way of hanging my things so there are as few wrinkles as possible, and no annoying drying lines across the middle of my shirts.. Though I could see the niceness of the act which would be appreciated.
if something happens and one day I can't get to my things in time, i'd just prefer someone put them in my basket for me to deal with...
but that's just me....

Re: The Abandoned Laundry Quandary

Its funny how people deal with this Mine is one washer, one dryer to share between the block, no schedule - just use it if its free! Its usually free so not so many issues but if washing is left idle i just take it out, fold it up (well the big items - dont like touching the underwear and stuff ) and put mine in. Never had an issue with this.

I think its fair enough when you all have to share, as long as you treat there stuff with respect then I dont see where the justification for an unhappy neighbour comes in - and if it does bother them then it should just encourage them to be on time to take out there washing There is a timer telling you exactly when it will finish!!

I agree, and I always put my timer on my phone, so I am there usuallly a minute or two before it ends.
I don't think most people mind either way...

just saying...I dunno...
just guess everyone is different.

in reality, most people would be fine with it I am sure. though not the dryer part...that is too risky I think.

Shared washing facilities???

Can you help me, please???

If you have a shared washing area and a member of the apartment block leaves there washing in the machine/drier all day is it wrong to empty it out into their baskets so you can use the machines???

It is really bugging me that I can not get any washing done for inconsiderate people!

Thanks all

Yes. But not as wrong as leaving it in all day to the annoyance of other tenants.

Sometimes two wrongs do make a right.

Re: Shared washing facilities???

I think it's standard practice if they over run into your slot. You might want to leave an indignant letter too. Seriously, do empty it, some apartment buildings you might not get another slot for weeks.

Ah the good ole washing problem!

Do you not have a wash plan for the building? A majority of the buildings have one. Ask your hauswart or a neighbour the next time you meet one in the corridors.

My building doesnt - its free for all for everyone so when somebody is forgetful (on the rare occasion), I usually take it out when they are done. No one has stormed up to my door yet because they know its inconsiderate to leave it in the dryer for the entire day. They have no right to be indignant if their washing's done, and if they dont want anyone touching their clothes, they need to be on time getting their washing. Simples.

Re: Shared washing facilities???

No, there is nothing wrong with such practice. They do it regularly to us and we do not complain so why should they. It makes the things moving faster. It is used for wet clothes afterall, so as soon as they are dry, you chuck them to the basket (not dustbin). Finish and clear.

Re: Shared washing facilities???

I do it. I usually give the person 10 minutes if the washing finished in my slot. Then they are out. I can understand that some people may forget to take them out so i dont get upset. Usually the owner leaves a basket for them anw. Nobody complained so far

Thank you for letting us know vickis. We'll send over the laundry police to take a look at your case and sort out the issue.

I can be ver frustrating..I understand, but maybe you should take up the issue with the custodian or the landlord/agency.

Re: Laundry in switzerland sucks

The laundry police could be very useful now!

I just find it really frustrating when I am so polite and ensure I am there as the machine finishes to ensure I do not hold anyone else up and others don't....grrrr...moan over!

Thanks

Re: Laundry in switzerland sucks

These are very cheap:

You don't need the landlord's permission to keep one in your apartment, and you can use it any time of the day or night, even on a Sunday!

In my building it's also free for all and most of the time there was no problem with finding a slot.
Now recently some "insert appropriate comment here" people are leaving their laundry in and going away for the entire day. So when I want to wash my clothes, I just take theirs (finished) out.

And just to add: imagine my surprise when one day I just put my rugs in the dryer and the guy (which left his laundry for the entire day) came back, took my wet load out and put his left-on-the-table-for-the-whole-day load in! I was furious

I checked with my lawyer: bringing own wash-machine in rented apartment is perfectly OK.
