Re: Earthquake?

I don't know about Zürich, but Basel is well known for seismic activity, usually quite small, although one earthquake woke me up in the middle of the night just after I moved here in March 2009.

They're not always small, though. Basel was flattened in 1356 by an earthquake of up to 7.1 magnitude on the Richter scale, and it's only an hour's drive from Zürich.

That's why so many apartments here have those impenetrable concrete ceilings and floors ... it's not just to keep the neighbours happy after 10:00 pm.

Re: Earthquake?

Great stuff, felt it in my office near Paradeplatz and filled out the form on the website linked above. Power outage one day, earthquake the next, Wegelin out of business on the same day, who says CH is boring.

Re: Earthquake?

If I'm not mistaken, I think we just had a tremor in Basel -- about 23:44 this evening. I'll see if there's any record of it online.

Either that, or the %&*£ing neighbours are moving furniture well into the night, again.

EDIT: So, apparently, it wasn't the neighbours ...

Re: Earthquake?

http://www.seismo.ethz.ch/index seems to be crashing under traffic at least, haha. Being from Iceland this is not the first one I've felt, and probably not the last, haha.

Re: Earthquake?

Yep definitely felt a slight tremor followed by a couple of smaller ones over maybe 2 seconds. Now the Swiss seismology site http://www.seismo.ethz.ch/index is temporarily unavailable as many are checking on it.

Re: Earthquake?

Felt in Zurich center (kreis 8).... feeling a bit unsettled at the moment. Was not sure if it was an explosion, the upstairs neighbor or an earthquake.
