Fair point. But pardon me for being straight: people will be more inclined to help if they know why a fully functioning adult is unable to get herself from Erlenbach to the centre of Zürich/back home. Or how she ended up there in the first place.
You are right of course. Mainly it seems to have been bad luck...

Alternatively, she might be directed to more helpful channels, like women's shelters if she's in trouble.

Just saying. I hope it works out for her soon!
Thanks to the help and suggestions of you all, it seems to be going in the right direction!

Thank you again...

Sorry guys and girls,

there seems to be somebody out there who really needs help as soon as possible. Could you please for once stay on topic and do your stuff on another playground...maybe just shut up for an hour or so?

Seems to be in hand.

Indeed........if anything, by having some harmless banter it keeps the thread bumped up, enabling the maximum amount of people to read the thread and possibly offer assistance.

Various people have offered suggestions and solutions (including myself), so hopefully all will be okay.

cheers

Re: Help for friend stuck in Erlenbach

I live too far away / work too late to be of much help, I'm afraid, but in terms of immediate advice to someone stuck in Erlenbach train station with presumably not a whole lot of cash on hand:

1) If you have some change for the ticket machine, get the next train into Zürich (there's one every half hour). There is a heated waiting room at the main station you can use for free, or various cafes where you can dawdle over a cup of coffee for at least a couple of hours. If the goal is to warm up and kill time without spending too much, this is your best bet.

2) If you have bills but need change, there's a bakery/cafe next to the station (possibly even in the station building? Can't quite remember.) Buy a gipfeli (they're usually CHF1.40ish) pay for it with a banknote and use the change to get your train ticket.

3) If you have money in the bank but need cash, there's a cash machine round the corner, see this map: http://map.search.ch/erlenbach-zh

4) If you don't have money but have a credit card, try the restaurant across from the station. Most restaurants will take credit cards nowadays, especially restaurants near train stations. That'll give you a warm meal and a place to spend a couple of hours. Then walk down to the lake and get on the 16.47 boat to Zürich. You can pay for your ticket on the boat and they do take credit cards.

5) If all else fails, get on the train to Zürich anyway, ticket or no ticket. Odds are low you'll be caught and even if you are it sure beats hypothermia.

I tend to disagree. Hot stuff does not need place to warm up

Do you even know the definition of irony?
Also, there is a time and place for senseless content but when somebody is stranded for whatever reason, it certainly isn't the right place to add your insipid and thoughtless nonsense.

So, you ignore all the "hot" comments and jump on when someone points out that "warm" is like "hot"? Anyway, heartless though this will sound/be, some random person is somehow stranded and cold at a train station. Help was offered. What else is needed, lots of "oh you poor girl" comments that she'll never read?

At the point Abfab made his comments, the person has not been helped and thus, it seemed highly counterproductive.
