Aegeri Lake

For a while now (since this recent cold spell) the Unteraegeri end of the Aegerisee was frozen.

Since yesterday this frozen section has begun to thaw out.

Its been snow quite alot today, but its been quite mild and the snow is very 'wet'.

But i just looked out of my balcony and the entire lake is covered in snow!!!

If the temperature drops tonight to sub minus 10, i think it will start to freeze the whole lake.

I only came to Switzerland just after the winter when the complete lake froze........hopefully it will happen soon as i really want to walk out to the middle and take a few pictures.

Can anyone else in Unter or Oberaegeri see this??

Looks weird!!

cheers
SC

Re: Aegeri Lake

I can see it too! But there are certain parts where you see no snow, hence no ice.

Re: Aegeri Lake

The snow will stop the cold getting to the water to make more ice. Odd as it sounds, snow acts as insulation!

OK, so if SC fails to appear on EF tomorrow, we know where to look.

Re: Aegeri Lake

It is supposed to be much warmer. Be careful when walking on thin
ice.

Re: Aegeri Lake

If you Google "Seegfrörni" you'll see the lake was frozen in 2006 and 1981 or something like that.

I wouldn't go out on the lake unless it's made explicit that it is safe. Apparently you can be fined for doing so.

I hope it does freeze over sometime. I'm moving there.

Re: Aegeri Lake

A bit less fog today.....so the lake a is a tad more visable.

Only a few patches that are not covered.

Still looks really weird
