FEAR of hairstylists!

I am TERRIFIED of hair stylists!!

Born a dish-water blond, I was convinced of the need to change my hair color, by my mid teens. My best friend ( a gorgeous brunette with a olive complexion) decided to "frost" my hair, turning it WHITE , then trying to return it to brown and turning it GREEN . That was only the beginning.

Over the years, it just seemed to get worse, ending up YELLOW, or GREEN. Thus, my fear and loathing of hair stylists. They could either make you feel WONDERFUL or HORRIBLE, in a matter of minutes. And, then you would have to pay for their services and live with the results. UGH!!

However, the past two years, I have:
1. been too busy to go to regular salons
2. started to love natural women, who grow old gracefully
3. had the pleasure to meet POS, the no bullshit, traveling Aussie hairdresser, who comes to me and insists on natural....

Finally, I am no longer YELLOW....that is pretty awesome. Thank you POS!

Re: FEAR of hairstylists!

I'm glad you have at last found a good hairdresser. I too am terrified of them, or at least I was, until I found a wonderful one back in England about 10 years ago. I have lived here in Switzerland for 5 years now, and only ever have my hair cut when I visit home , about three times a year.
I will definitely make a note of POS's phone number, just in case I can summon up the courage to have a change. Thanks!

Re: FEAR of hairstylists!

Nice bit of plugging. If I were Pos I would say like, "wow, did you really do that for me?" But once I heard you put my mobile number out there, on the webs, for all the world to see, I'd make your hair green again. But that's just me. Maybe he'll love the idea.

Re: FEAR of hairstylists!

I haven't been to a hairdresser in years, clippers for me, maybe not an option for the ladies. Sometimes I let it grow out, ut less nowadays..

There was one hairdresser I had years ago I liked, and would go back to, but with most other hairdressers I'd end up shaving my head again after a couple of days.

Re: FEAR of hairstylists!

I've found the hair dye packages in the stores are just as good as the hairdresser's dyes....

That's true, but it can be tricky to apply it yourself, and it's also terribly messy...

I usually enlist OH's help, but he's not so good at it... I still remember the time he carefully applied my midnight blue dye starting in the middle of my forehead... I had to bleach my skin

Sometimes I just can't be bothered and prefer paying a hairdresser for a hassle-free treat.

You can also buy professional quality products online - I used goldwell colorance and bought it from Germany - masterhair.de. If you buy 6-12 month's worth, it's worth the cost. There are other sites too, just google the product you like.

I've colored my own hair for years.. You just have to be careful and always have a good neutral color in case you screw up.

Recently though, I stopped and let the gray come in. It was time..

Re: FEAR of hairstylists!

I am just letting my hair grow long. It is the longest it has ever been and is now halfway down my back. But when I head back to the tropics I am going to lop it all off and have short hair - can't wait.

Re: FEAR of hairstylists!

I'd be careful home-dyeing. I've done it for years now, but only because black is such a fool-proof colour.

The one time I wanted to be creative, I ended up with black hair, with orange and green highlights. Puketastic pretty right?
