Re: Motor Show Geneva

speaking of motor shows, i was surprised to see this at the Swiss Moto Show in Zurich a few days ago on a Sunday, with families visiting. Totally makes motor shows worthwhile for even people who are not that much into motors ;-)

and about the geneva show, i agree that it is too crowded, and am not a big fan of waiting in queue to check out a car, because of small kids filling up the driver's seats, but still it is one of the biggest show you'll get to in a close distance... (well, if you drive, you'll possibly have to park a long distance away which will cost you 20 bucks, and then need to take a shuttle to the show) still, taking pictures of shiny metal objects is cool :P

Re: Motor Show Geneva

Yes, I will be going. Last year I went on a Wednesday. Got there when the doors opened (no reason for that as it was not that crowded) walked through twice, stopping at almost all cars, ended the day with 250 odd pictures (I normally take about 10-12 pictures on a family outing).

This year I will attempt the last Sunday of the show. I will go every year. Not because I love cars, but because we regret more the things we didn't do. I would like to visit the show in Tokyo once, but can only dream...

it was the motorcycle show, so, a lot of harleys, etc around.. i guess, it does reflect a bit of the spirit...

though, at geneva auto show, i didn't really see so many female models, which is common in such shows. maybe, they hire them for the unveilings only. still, i have visited the show almost every year for the last few years, and i hope Alfa Romeo is bringing a lava red 4C to the show that is refined to production model

Re: Motor Show Geneva

When I want to be pushed around I visit a punk concert (like Rise against), because the attendees there got manners, which will be sadly missed at the motor show in geneva , because everyone is busy looking at cars (they can't afford) or watching crappy girls doing dancing in their bath suits.

Re: Motor Show Geneva

I'm going to arrive at 9am on Sunday the 11th. Hoping some mothers will force their kids to go to church before the show but I'm sure it'll be crowded. Wish I could go during the week...but work comes first.

And, this is my first real car show. Most of the ones in the US basically are run by the local dealerships, this is driven by the car manufacturers so it's a whole new ball game.

Wish me luck.

Re: Motor Show Geneva

got to there last saturday, the 10th. left at 6 am in the morning, but still hit traffic on the geneva-lausanne road. and even around 09:30, inside was very crowded, with kids crowding the cars. i'm past sitting inside most of the cars, it was difficult to get nice pictures for some of them, surrounded by a lot of people. especially around the maserati-ferrari-aston martin region. had to leave myself to the human river along the passages to get past to the other side of the hall.

though, still a lot of images, a lot of nice cars, and overall it was OK.

Re: Motor Show Geneva

I went to Geneva last weekend with the full intention of going to the motor show (even had my ticket already), but never actually made it there... Got a bit distracted in Geneva itself (think I may have landed a job finally!)

Re: Motor Show Geneva

Went on Saturday the 10th. Will never go an a Saturday again. Too many people, mostly the same cars.

I left disappointed and will probably not go next year, maybe this is one of those 'every second year' type of shows.

Re: Motor Show Geneva

well, normally they will direct you to an empty parking, where they will charge 20 CHF per day that includes bus transport to PALEXPO.

Re: Motor Show Geneva

My review: B-

Sunday was mobbed of course. Highlights for me was the Porsche display (though 80% of the space was devoted to invite-only...understandably!), the new Audi A3 (gorgeous, beautifully appointed interior), the VW up! (fantastic city car, the spiritual successor to the Beetle) and seeing the girls. But to be honest, it wasn't the epic event I had hoped for. Probably won't return unless I can come on a press day or for a promotional event, etc.

Now I'm looking forward to the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este on Lake Como. Those are cars with character!

Re: Motor Show Geneva

Castro,

I was surprised at the commotion around the A-Class. To be honest, I don't understand the attraction to Mercedes that aren't big, comfortable, well-built sedans...but this is directly going head to head with the A3, V40 (which I thought was better looking), BMW 1er and I'm sure will pull its share of the market. MB is surely trying to attract a younger audience.

In my eyes however, the A3 looks to be the one to beat. It is so finely detailed and well designed, not to mention the interior is such a great place to be. The V40 continues Volvo's trend of designing cars that look like guppies and while the 118i that I drove last month was very pleasurable...it's simply boring. I fear all of the cars in this segment are rather forgettable once behind the wheel.

I ended up with a new Mini Cooper S, but if I had kids...oh boy...don't know the answer.
