Partying in Zurich

I've got 3 university friends coming over and I'm meeting them in Zurich for Easter Weekend. We love a good night out boozing/clubbing etc., (not here to make a dent in the city though).

Can anyone advise some decent bars, where 4 guys can enjoy (fairly) respectable prices, and a good area for having a good time?!

thanks.

Go to Langstrasse, start at the bottom and work your way up, be sure to check the bars just off Langstrasse. Don't be put off by the dodgy looking bars, there are more good than bad.

@bobbie88: Common sense I know but be sure to keep an eye out for thieves wherever you go. Yeah, you are all guys but this happened to us during a visit some months ago to a wonderful bar on Langstrasse - Bad boys bad boys, whatcha gonna do (or the bag snatcher thread). This incident hasn't stopped me from going there again as it's a great place and besides which opportunist thieves are everywhere.

Wherever you go, have fun and stay safe!

Re: Partying in Zurich

There's an Irish Week going on in the Backpacker's Hirschen Pub in Schwyz. Guiness on tap. The young un's like the place but they just usually sit around and stare at each other, just like in England.

There's also Trio Rötstock in Rest. Mythen in Schwyz for some real hardcore folklore.

Beside the point that many tram-drivers in Zürich are Kanton-Schwyz folks anyway, "THE Pub" near Stauffacher Selnau (let's not forget that Dr Jur Stauffaucher also was from Schwyz) will have a St Patrick's celebration tonight

Why don't they post on the social events calendar on the Forum itself? Seems a bit weird, but then so am I.

Understandable, but not community minded. There are bound to be 'youngsters' on English Forum who'd be happy to learn of such events but are not aware it's being advertised on another site.

It would be more inclusive to have events listed on the Forum itself, as well as anywhere else, but a bit odd to associate via the FB page and not bother sharing on the Mothership.

Re: Partying in Zurich

Bar Rimin on Badweg is a really cool lounge - although you may to check if they have opened up - as it is more of a summer place. Given thats its warming up here they might be open!

Re: Partying in Zurich

El Lokal - along the Sihl - is a pretty good bar (popular among students). The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is usually decent.

Re: Partying in Zurich

For loads of bars: Langstrasse as already advised - lots of nice bars along there Start from the Helvetiaplatz end, the Limmatplatz end tends to be more restaurants. With the exception of...

Mata Hari: When your evening is winding down and other places are closing, make sure Mata Hari (on langstr, nr limmatpl) is the last place you go to. Great bar, never seems to shut and the barman is a legend.

Away from langstrasse, off the top of my head:

- Tour down niederdorfstrasse. Start at Central and and work your way down. Lots of good bars along there too, and you have the picturesque setting too. Lots of tourists and touristy restaurants too, but there are some gems. In particular make sure you check out Edi's Weinstube (aka, the porn bar). It's next to the Stussihof and has very cheap wine.

Clubs wise there are some on langstrasse, i have heard good things about Gonzo. I've been going to Plaza at Bezirksgebaude (next to Stauffacher) recently. Music is less euro techno and more dancey and it's fairly spacious. Go in a group though, as the others on the dancefloor aren't exactly receptive to randoms coming over and having a dance

If you are looking for somewhere to have a chilled out drink during the afternoon - and if it's sunny - check out Oberer Letten (not sure if it will be open, yet). Same with Rimini - rimini is awesome but I think only opens april/may time. Also Nordbrucke at Bahnhof Wipkingen is a great place to have a chilled out drink before heading into town.
