Rechnung vs. Vorauszahlung

I recently discovered shops.ch and I really want to get something from there. Two of the available payment methods are Rechnung (which I suspect is the one where they send you the orange payment slip and you pay within 14 days) and Vorauszahlung. Since I don't have a credit card and my address has not been verified to allow the Rechnung option, I'll have to go with Vorauszahlung.

How does this work exactly? Do you pay the postman when the item is delivered? What happens if you're away?

Thanks a lot!

You do the payment either by postal payment or by bank-transfer. In order to speed things up you might send them a copy of your payment receipt. Upon receipt of payment they will send out.

Re: Rechnung vs. Vorauszahlung

Yep as Wollishofener said. My husband as recently purchased an expensive set of headphones and choose to pay with Vorauszahlung because it gave him a 3% discount. So check is you can get a discount.

Postmen is Switzerland never take payments.

Yes, they do.

Nachnahme is German for COD, and many companies will send it this way as an option (Steg, for example).

If you aren't home to pay the postman, they will leave a slip and you will need to go to the PO to collect and pay for it.

Re: Rechnung vs. Vorauszahlung

Note that the COD/Nachnahme option is usually the priciest option. I've used Vorauszahlung several times, but you might want to check that the merchant you're dealing with is credible. The two easiest things to check:
1) Ratings on toppreise.ch
2) Availability of a real street address (and not just a PO box) and even better a proper bricks and mortar shop
You'll often get a small discount with Vorauszahlung - the merchant knows he has his money, doesn't have to pay a credit card fee and he should reward you for that. The real disadvantage is that it may take an extra day or two for the goods to be dispatched, as the payment needs to reach the merchant first.
