I'm talking about my colleagues wearing the same full outfit 2, 3 or 4 days in a row. You should always change shirts, pants/trousers can be ok.

No, I wasn't talking about underwear.
To be fair, a lot of apartments only have access to a washing machine once a week, some even less frequently, so I guess you have to try to get whatever mileage out of your outfits you can. Otherwise you'd have to have a wardrobe the size of H&M to have enough clothes for a fresh outfit every day.

39 (?) Fanny Packs! WTF people!? They only barely trail mullets and fauxhawks in making me want to cry. I normally don't care much about fashion, but fanny packs? Really?

Fanny Packs?? Oo-er missus, sounds a bit rude. What are Fanny Packs and what do you use them for? Getting a vision of a chastity belt...

Sorry, went to the God of Google and found out what it was.

Apparently it's a bum-bag.

I thought these were more favoured by our transatlantic friends than by the Swiss . And if I have to wear one, I wear it on the hip .

I would probably agree with you if I knew what one was. I have spent a lot of time in the country since the early nineties and the fashion lag in CH is much less than before - mainly down to global chains and t'internet. Up until the late 90's you could still see Swiss blokes in tight jeans, white socks and black slip-ons, mullet and tash and open necked shirt complete with gold medallion.............in fact this species is still active in some of the more remote corners of Kantons UR, GR and OW!

Yes, Americans have a different definition of "fanny" to the rest of the English-speaking world .

Working in an office full of seppos, I've seen this particular bit of cultural diversion be the cause of some significant confusion (and subsequently embarassment - comments like "[...] and at the bar last night, he started getting onto this girl with a slap on the fanny").

Re: Top-10 Things Foreigners find Remarkable about Switzerland

Thanks, that clears that one up. So when an American woman asks me "does my fanny look big in this?" it should be less

and more "of course not it really suits you"

Back to the point, these things are indeed a fashion disaster nearly as bad as those things you used to put your money in and hang round your neck on the beach. You would either strangle yourself or the top would come off and your money fly everywhere.

"...and he burnt me with the end of his fag..!"

That got a raised eyebrow among our American friends...

24. "Handy" is a noun and means cell phone (mobile phone). Most Swiss have no idea that "handy" is an adjective and means practical.
wrong, its NATEL. handy is the german word, coming from Germany, hardly used in CH.

Re: Top-10 Things Foreigners find Remarkable about Switzerland

It used to be Natel (a brand name), but I find Handy is now more common.
Like when people used to call it a Vodafone in the UK.

Maybe it's a regional thing, in ZentralSchweiz I only hear Natel but we have family in Schaffhausen and they all use "handy".

They are now so ubiquitous, a lot of people I know (in England) just say phone. Any sign of that yet?
