And as any Scouser will tell you, the best way to get a budgie to speke is on the 58 bus.

Glad you are going out of your way to help this bird, kngavl. Good on ya!

Forgive me for sounding like a broken record, but have you filed an official report yet? This is important, as an owner of a lost pet would likely first go to the cantonal Meldstelle or one of the sites above to look for his/her pet.

Wishing the little guy a swift reunion with his people.
No I have not yet, but I will today once I'm done around here.

We did speak to a couple people from the surrounding blocks to see if anyone knew of any bird owners but no one knew of any.

How sweet of you to take all the action for the little birdie! I know how it is, I just recently went all the way to Montreux to save a little fish, it's always great when people help an animal in need!

Please leave a note in your door (downstairs) related to you finding the bird and your telephone, with the picture would be best, but even if you don't have that already available - please make a signal that the owner may recognice if he gets around looking for his bird

DO NOT put a photo.... then anyone can come and say they lost the bird.

Just say welli has been found - you can claim it if you can describe it etc.

Speke is an area (suburb maybe) of Liverpool (a scouser is a person from Liverpool) and presumably the number 58 bus (or indeed any bus) goes there.

It's a play on words (Speke/speak) but you have to be a Brit and probably a northerner to actually get the joke.

Update*

Okay, sigh* I am beat. I've been stressing about the arme guy all day. Basically, we called all the animal shelters/tierspitals and likewise in Bern and we were referred to call Old folk homes. Called them and found someone who'd take the guy if no one would collect him as the animal places wouldn't take him.

Then a friend and I went around Bern to see if we could find a bird cage to keep him in. We searched every antiques store, coop, Loeb, the zoo place bei Koniz and couldn't find anything affordable (Less than $180, we are students...).

So the neighbor spoke with their parents and one of them happened to have a cage. Came home and found the little guy sleeping in my roommates shirt, that he'd also taken a dump in . (Shirt is about to go into the wash before he comes home) The little guy is currently in a box, stuffed with some of my soft pants, on a train to a city nearby to stay until we find someone.

Next thing, once my roommate comes home we'll type out a Lost and Found poster and start billing it all over our area + the local and central Migros. I had a walk outside our building and could find no open windows in our block but we have another area nearby that I couldn't check. He had no ring on his feet to identify him.

If no one comes to pick him up, we have someone who sounds nice and has had bird before willing to take him or if we decide to pitch together and get a cage between our apartment and our neighbors. ( I having kept birds before and them as well.)

So there is finally a lull in the action, which leaves me time to wash the washroom and clothes.

Will update what happens next in this epic saga as soon as there is development.

To think, this morning I thought I was going to have a relaxing day. Instead a bird flew into my life!

I need a beer.
Your note made my day...seriously, you need to come to my work and write a couple of refusal letters for my clients!!

Re: Is anyone missing a Parrot?

Nothing yet .

Posters are up and we spoke to some more old timers living in the buildings near us who all said that they don't know of anyone in their buildings that has any bird. I put the record of finding him online in the database but I've had no contact as of yet. I will most likely see the guy tonight but all I know so far is that he is at least in a normal cage and eating/drinking well. He also took the train ride well to his temporary home.

That's about all I can offer for info at the moment.

Re: Is anyone missing a Parrot?

And I guess one more follow up.

He has a name, Willy . We managed to find an affordable and appropriate cage for him and he'll be moving back to Bern within the week I believe. He's doing well although he's a little reserved compared to when I first found him but he's eating well and lively. He's quiet unless your running water for some reason then he starts to do a little chirping. We've got no one to step forward as his owner and we've spoken with the other locals near by and have got no leads so we decided that he'll be staying with us. He'll be in the company of good people.

Thanks to everyone who offered/pmed to take care of the guy if we couldn't resolve what to do with ihm! We really appreciate the support and suggestions everyone has made on this thread!

Maybe he chirps when you are running the water because he wants a bird bath.
I guess you have probably heard that birds must be kept in pairs...

Haha, I'm waiting for the next one to fly through the window any day now....
Twas a wet and stormy day in August 2010 when we spied a little golden bird, wet, bedraggled and forlorn upon our window sill. We opened the window and quick as the blink of an eye, in he flit and landed on my dearests head. Uh-oh, what now... but now I guess you know. First internet, what is he, what does he need, then where did he come from...how to get him back, which, of course, drew a blank. Seems some fly away by accident, some accidentally-on-purpose because it was cute when they bought it for their kid(s), got it as a present or whatever, but then lost interest and don't want the responsibility.

With us, when nobody responded to our extensive efforts, next was a cage, proper food, beech branches instead of plastic perches...then a partner... then a pair of Gouldies, a whole band of little modern dinosaurs. They change your life, these little beings with such individual personalities, you can't resist them touching your heart, making you laugh....they also brought a shift in my photographic interests towards wild birds, and that's a challenge.

In the meantime, our original Baby passed on. He had picked up some air sac mites from wild birds when he was on the loose and try as we might, with the vet, he eventually succumbed. I would therefore recommend your Willy take a trip to an avian vet for a check up. Dr. Heferli in Ostermundigen, also the zoo vet, is excellent and not expensive. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me.

Photo of Baby, and now Paco, Rosita (Raza Espagnols), Propeller and Silly (Lady Gouldian finches).

Did you ask him whether he wanted a cracker. That's a good line to break the ice.
