Switzerland ethnicity demography

Hi everyone,
I'm just curious about the ethnicity demography in Switzerland. Particularly, Lausanne.

As a Korean myself, should I expect a lot of other Asians?
I will be coming from Canada and there are a LOT of Asians here... especially the Chinese.

I'm very excited about visiting Switzerland and want to get a good grip on what to expect when I get there so I don't get too starry-eyed! hehe.

Yes, Lausanne has a very good mix these days, and quite a few Asians. Hopefully you'll feel very much at home... and yet very different.

Re: Switzerland ethnicity demography

Lausanne has a very big variety of nationalities and cultures...

As far as Asians, there are quite a few, there is an important community coming from the hotel management school.

As far as Europeans, there are in majority Italians, Spanish, French and Portuguese

Lot of South Americans and Africans

First of all, important is the language. Look at the Arab World plus Turkey and Kosovo. There are more Egyptians, Palestinians, Iraqi, Turks and Kosovari in the Zürich region than in the Geneva region, while it is in a balance in regard to Syria and Lebanon. There of course are far more Maghrebines in the Geneva area than around Zürich. Look to Africa. While there are many people from countries like Kenya around Zürich, people from countries like Senegal rather tend to Geneva. It is equal with most of Asia, except of course that people from former French Indo-China have a bit of a preference for the Lake of Geneva.

There quite obviously is a sizeable Korean community around Zürich, I however have no idea about the Lake of Geneva region.

There also are big Iranian, Brazilian and Argentinian communities in both the Zürich area and the Lake of Geneva area. And of course, since the 1950ies, the large Italian, Spanish and Portuguese communities. AND, very important nowadays, the large Tamil community, who proved to be "upwardly mobile" in recent years !
