What is happening with people's sense for literal meaning and interpretation these days.
Maybe it took a long walk off a short pier.

On the upside, the guy who invented and patented emoticons is probably raking it in, for exactly this reason.

He hasn't come up for one to be used when sarcasm is deployed though....

He should burn in hell,heh..I grew allergic to smilies, they make people lazy and too easy to shrug others off. Much more fun in werds...I'd say, either ban smilies or let's turn them into something totally ridiculous.

Seriously its not a demonic act.....then what is it then....you are inhaling a multitude of toxic chemicals wrapped in foul smelling tobacco, that is laced with nicotine.
The issue is most minority smokers behave in a what that is disrespectful to majority non smokers. In NA the law now is its banned public places such as train stations / bust stations and you must be 100 ft away from a door ways to shops etc. Cant wait for mit to catch up here.....
Erm..... It's a legal human right

In other news, I am intrigued by the bust stations

Re: Considering taking up smoking

As a staunch anti-smoker as well, it was a bit of a rude shock at first the numbers who smoke here (and I'm guessing it's worse in Romandie?) but you do get used to it. Or at least become good at avoiding it.

But what really shocked me - and perhaps a little naively - was the amount of cigarette advertising. We banned smoking ads in Australia in 1992, so I haven't seen a smoking ad, really, for 20 years!

Just take a look at the difference here between a smoking ad (slickly produced) and an anti-smoking ad (rather lame):

Smoking ad

Anti-smoking ad, using condoms, of all things

Seriously, the anti-smoking campaign is stuck in the 70s.

Same in New Zealand. We are following in Aussie's footsteps soon with plain packaging too. There are ads all over the place in NZ for services to help you quit, about taking care when smoking around others etc.

One of the most shocking things I see all the time here is the number of parents casually smoking right next to their kids. I never did that, even when I was a smoker. I made sure that I kept the habit as far from them as possible, and ultimately made sure I quit.

You're certainly right about that.

While I'm passing through, may I offer warm congratulations to the OP for what is, by some distance, the phrase of the day: "freshly smoked veteran".

Superb.
