| | WRS - Swiss based English language radio station
Just seen on Swissinfo a new national radio station has begun broadcasting, WRS, exclusivley in english. http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/front/de...70577000&ty=st
Seems to be aimed at us expats, I'd be interested to know if they make a change from the usual poptastic music they play here.
Anyone know if it's going to appear on Cablecom?

This station used is the former WRG-FM Geneva. It was sort of good, but it looks like the programs are going for a total overhaul.

It's only on DAB nationwide for now: in 2008 you'll receive it via Cablecom

| | WRS - being deliberately flown into the ground?
I set my radio to come on every morning at 7 o’clock. WRS comes on with the BBC news and I usually find it a good way to wake up. This morning, immediately after the news, there was some rap/hip-hop (whatever the genre – it was very shouty) followed by the most balls-achingly boring article about the Swiss Green party being 50 years old. FFS! It certainly got me out of bed.
I know there is no accounting for taste, but what is the demographic being targeted here?
I just hope that Mark Butcher (who seems to have completely lost his bounce) can crawl away from the wreckage intact, to cheer us up somewhere else.

| | WRS World Radio Switzerland-Rubbish?
Are you happy with the local English language radio station?
Since WRS became a part of the national broadcaster do you think they have become complacent and disregard the wants and needs of the listener?
Do you get frustrated by the amateurish way songs are interrupted by bulletins and vice versa, that there are no announcers during the weekend?
Do you feel that most of what they provide is stale and needs a proverbial kick up the arse?
Ok, so join this Facebook group, share your thoughts on the subject... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=...70&topic=12450 |

Hm, it is kinda harrassing, no? Facebook to nag?
I am glad there is anything going on, there are a lot of interesting programs, kids, health, etc. The music has improved as well, since they have a new manager. But don't forget what does not suit you might be completely ok for lots of others. It is their business, so let them spin it the way they want it. I could see the staff on duty between songs could be not prepared due to serious time constraints. You do not know what their job actually involves.
What buggs me more is the fact I can't catch their frequence clearly anymore.
If you do not like their services, why don't you listen to online radio of your choice? Like this, for example, a lovely one www.wfmu.org. A lot more interesting muzzak and pro djs who know their stuff.

Well if you find it acceptable that's all well and good.
I'm used to better and think that their budget of CHF 3.9 million could be better spent.
A little imagination, organisation, inspiration would go a long way. Waking up to "The National" (which you can't hear on your radio beyond Lausanne) is like Groundhog Day. I know exactly which speech impediment I will hear and at exactly what time.
Oh and the football you listen to on Saturday is brought to you by the BBC, not WRS. If you read the content on the Facebook group you'll see a ltter from the Director of the station saying that budgetary constraints mean they don't have any studio staff at the weekend.
Acceptable, give me strength. You carry on listening.

D | | | | | Tell you what, you set up your own English speaking radio station and do better.
WRS is ok. It's not brilliant but it's better than nothing.

do you want to contribute to it, so it can have presenters on a saturday?
or would you just like to keep moaning for the sake of moaning, seems like if you found a Chf10 in the street you start a facebook campaign about why people should drop Chf 20 | The following 2 users would like to thank monkeynut for this useful post:

D | | | | | Who exactly is 'us'?
Welcome to the Forum. I love various programmes on various stations and never once felt compelled to have to listen to every broadcast. There's a great show on WRS by Hester McDonald, who discusses gardening themes.
I do agree reception beyond the edge of Geneva could be improved: perhaps they'd get more listeners if we could actually receive WRS on DAB, which in principle one can...

Is WRS perfect... no...
Do they play only songs that I like... no... ( but then neither does my iPod and I'm responsible for that )
Is WRS a lot better since back in the Rodney Ross days and live programing.. how many hours a day ? .. absolutely.
Daithi, I have to voice with MonkeyNut and Imogen unless you have a better alternative, or help with funding don't complain.
( or listen to .. what is the Christian station? )

Sorry you feel that way.
Better than nothing, is that good enough, is that the standard?
A public broadcaster has a responsibility and "better than nothing" is failing that.
Monkey Nut, I don't want to contribute, I want to be entertained. CHF 3.9 million of public money is allocated for that purpose.
Now I'm away to start off a Facebook Group demanding extreme violence to people who have nothing better to do than post over 700 times on these forums and call themselves Monkey Nuts.
Only joking, relax! | Quote:
