Geneva disturbances , may 18 -19th

as part of a continuing public service campaign....
good luck if you plan on being a tourist in GE this weekend...

be advised that the Geneva Police have authorized three demonstrations for this coming Friday, May 18, 2012 and Saturday, May 19, 2012.

It is expected for the Friday demonstration in support of the Human Rights in Sri Lanka that there will be approximately 3000 participants. This demonstration will take place at the Place des Nations between 14:00 to 18:30.

The Saturday demonstration to support the Human Rights and condemn the massacres committed in Syria will have approximately 3000 expected participants. This demonstration will start at the Place des Nations at 10:00 and will then make its way over to the Quai Wilson in front of the Palais Wilson at 14:00 and then the participants will return to the Place des Nations (walking along the Avenue de France, Quai Wilson, Quai Mont Blanc, Rue des Alpes, Passage des Alpes, Rue de Montbrillant) where demonstration is expected to finish at 17:00.

On Saturday, another demonstration to denounce the violation of the Human Rights in Iran will be held simultaneously from 15:00 to 16:00 at the Place des Nations.

Historically, these demonstrations have been peaceful. However, as a precaution and as is customary in these situations, the Geneva Police will be deployed in the neighbourhood of the Place des Nations and Palais Wilson.

Staff is reminded that travel in these vicinities by vehicle or foot could be slow and/or reduced during the afternoon and early evening hours so when possible they should avoid this area as much as possible.

It is just that in Geneva demonstrations are so rare that it looks like a big deal when there is one. I think Brussels had to suffer last year on average one demonstration a day.

So what will happen at 16:00? Will people thin that time is up and realize that there is still time to do the weekend shopping at Coop or something?
