Ticino area: Any bulk discount stores (similar to Costco)?

This might be a long shot, but does anyone know of any bulk discount shops similar to Costco in the Ticino / nearest Italian region?

Perhaps anywhere else in Switzerland?

I remember many years ago in the UK, Costco was the only place you could find American products! Also excellent for stocking up on cheap essentials... batteries, frozen foods, cleaning supplies, etc.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I don't know if Ticino has one but there is a chain in Switzerland called TopCC... My mother-in-law has a membership and receives weekly specials in the mail. Here is there website: http://www.topcc.ch/contento/

Aligro is another possibility, although I don't think they have a place in Ticino yet. Mostly based in Swiss Romand, though they're opening a branch in Zurich later in the year. They are similar to Costco, but easier to join. There's no criteria as Costco has that you must be a director, doctor, lawyer, etc., before you can join; with Aligro you just have to apply for their card and that's it. The website is www.aligro.ch to see what they offer and where they are. Very good for buying bulk stuff.

A website I've used for American goodies is www.afoodave.ch who again stock many American brands. Not cheap particularly, but it is delivered to your door via Swiss Post.

There's ippergros in Losone and Noranco. I've never been there but according to their FAQ page, you don't even need a membership:

Quote:
Chiunque ha libero accesso ai nostri punti vendita di Noranco e Losone, non sono necessarie tessere o condizioni particolari.

I cross the border into Italy and go to Carrefour. But my food (and other) taste is more Italian than American.
