Re: Cost of buying a COW in Switzerland

After we have tackled the price issue, let's kill the beast, literally.

You need a trained butcher to do this. In the German speaking part they are called Störmetzger/Kundenmetzger (i do not know the French word for it). Those are butchers that will come to your newly acquired cow and slaughter it according to Swiss law.

As said by others: You may make some sacrifices (no pun intended) so that Halal and Swiss law are in accordance. Normally Swiss law take precedence but some bakshish may change this.

What would be far easier would be to contact a farmer that has his own cattle for sale, meant for slaughter, and purchase the whole cow. I presume you want to have the cow slaughtered in a way that meets the sanitary requirements in Hallal.

The only problem with that is, if you plan to kill the cow yourself and also butcher it, you are going to have to have an area that is hygenically safe. Killing animals in a non "humane" way by anyone other then a licensed or professional slaughterhouse could be percieved as some one being cruel to an animal. I am sure there are Halall butchers and slaughter houses in Switzerland. The cost though to buy a cow, transport it, have it professional butchered, and so on might outweigh the cost of buying it in the store direct.

It's very easy to do what you are asking for back in the states, although I mostly did it with pigs, here though, in a country where you need to take a course before you get your fishing license where they certify you on how to euthenize a fish, getting the right to pick up Bessie and walk her down to your garage and butcher her next to your family vehicle might not be so easy.
I will surely contact mutiple farmers to compare prices. and yes i will not slaughter the cow myself but some of my friends(men) will do the halal slaughtering.

About the transportation i don't think that will be a problem.

Can I just repeat, if carried out in Switzerland, this is illegal.

I am pretty sure that in Switzerland it is illegal to slaughter animals by Halal methods. Animals have to be stunned before slaughter.
Stunning an animal and then slaughtering it wont be Halal then. Will the authorities find out if i plan to slaughterthe cow.. lets say at someone's house?

I couldn't help it but picture the scene, slaughtering a COW in summer while lot of people is taking the Sun in the middle of the Seefeldquai green area close to the Chinese Garden, that'd be funny as hell

Actually a nice idea for a hidden camera/prank
Care to come and watch?

These guys used to slaughter animals any way you wanted to. The law caught up with them and took away their animals and now they've lost their home too. Somewhere there's a horror flick to be filmed using these two brothers as the protaganists.
Do you have their contacts?

I did not know slaughtering an animal is classified as animal cruelty. I have witness from an early age when goats were slaughtered during for instance, Eid celebration, weddings etc

What better way to live up to extreme Swiss stereotypes of foreigners then to buy your own cow and slaughter it in your own garage under methods that seem barbaric to the locals. I can see the SVP new propaganda now for the next round of whatever they are tryng to get foreigners out of the country.

And I will look at that, that Swiss cow getting slaughtered by some foreigner, onto a bloodied Swiss flag, on every poster placing possible at Hauptbahnhofs acros the country, and think how ignorant of the SVP, and I'll just laugh and...
