Re: What are you reactions about the noisy portugues fans?

in vevey last night after the match, most of the key roads were all closed off while the fans shouted on the roundabout!

Thankfully it only lasts for about an hour - i do find it a little odd that considering how the police are about parties and noise at night that they let this go and nothing happens.

but...it only happens every few years and I find it interesting to see

Re: What are you reactions about the noisy portugues fans?

Love it! Portuguese are some of the most humble and warmest people I have ever come across so they deserve to have some joy. Live it up and honk those horns!

Hope they do the impossible and beat Spain and Germany Video of them after beating the Dutch-

Every time they win I join in and blast the track the Portuguese team were singing. I don't care what my neighbours think as it is sports time and they make enough noise all year round

Re: What are you reactions about the noisy portugues fans?

I think it is awesome to see people so proud of their country and their team. I don't think I'd have the guts to celebrate like that here so I also kind of admire their courage. That said, it's not keeping me up at night and I don't have small kids sleeping or work early in the morning.

Re: What are you reactions about the noisy portugues fans?

We haven't had anything excessive from the Portuguese around these parts, but they tend to be more reserved and well-mannered so that is unsurprising. However the Italians/Spanish were something else on Monday night. Way over the top considering this wasn't even the quarter-finals!

They kept at it for over an hour driving round in circles beeping and vocally screaming and yelling. I slept through most of it but wifey was quite irate the next morning when she had to go to work.

I guess both countries are going downhill so fast that, whilst it seems a bit pathetic that they get so excited about a bit of football while all else crumbles around them, maybe that is why the soccer takes on such significance?

Bread, circuses, nothing changes...

Fribourg centre usually comes to a complete standstill whenever Portugal wins.

OH - who is Portuguese - went to see the match in town with his friends yesterday night. He came back at midnight, totally overexcited

I think it's great to have such a community feeling. It's not forever, just a few evenings everyy few years, let them enjoy it!

Re: What are you reactions about the noisy portugues fans?

I don't have a problem with fans celebrating but usually only when they've reached the advanced stages of a competition or even won it. I couldn't understand the other night when the fans were out celebrating having made it through the group stages. A bit early to be celebrating so loud i thought.

Do you think it's too much, isn't disturbing a whole town each time the team wins considered a public disorder? I've got nothing on Portugues people, but i find it disturbing.

You must have a very perfect life if this is the biggest problem you have

Beeping your horn for 15 minutes is one thing - don't know what it was like where the OP is but here on Monday night it went on for at least an hour and a half, probably more, until midnight. When you have to get up for work the next morning, it's not really cool.
It's the same here, instead of celebrating the win in the pub they're parading in their cars for 1-2 hours, honking and causing a traffic chaos.

Fribourg was at a standstill even after they scraped a win against Denmark; you'd have thought they'd won the whole bloody thing. It's almost become mandatory now. I can understand people spilling out of bars and cafes to celebrate, but what I can't understand is getting in the car and driving from the surrounding villages into an already gridlocked town centre to further compound the problem.

Re: What are you reactions about the noisy portugues fans?

Simple solution:
1. Support the German team at football. Hope they get drawn to play Portugal.
2. Watch the game, where the usual result is a German win against Portugal.
3. Enjoy a quiet night. That's unless you're in Germany, where German supporters will be the noisy ones when Germany wins. In that case, you should support Spain if you want quiet as they tend to beat Germany.

..... 'cos he's a miserable git, who obviously doesn't like people to have a good time.

I hope he has the courtesy to remove his groan and return you to your unblemished record.

(he can give it to me, if he has the urge to groan someone, as he seems to drive-by groan, without backing up his argument).

Hi, I always try to explain why, but I have not much time right now.

quickly:
"community feeling" vs "nationalism"...

"great to have such community feeling"... This forum is full off people complaining when a Swiss is being nationalist or discrimination vs a "foreigner", and here you find "great" that the portugueses have the same behavior.
Look that topic:
I need to leave CH
How many people "approved", thanked that guy who complained about Swiss "nationalism/discrimination/community feeling"...
And when it's a foreigner who does that it's "cute"??? (you said "great").

That's almost positive discrimination here!!

So some communities have some tolerated behavior and some don't...

Anyway, it's all based on "nationalism" and that's quite wrong.

I which I could see so much "enthusiasm" from those Portuguese when it's about doing efforts for integration, as opposed to explode of joy when "their" country wins a football game.

Funny

I was actually happy when they lost because the "fans" refrain from beeping for hours.
