Stanserhorn's too expensive for me.
I'm off to Paris. It's free thrills there

I can think of something worse for those with acrophobia. Watch this:
OMG!
Without a safety line too!
I felt dizzy watching it, still do a minute later!
Ride up the Stanserhorn anyone?

Re: Not for the faint hearted?

Inspired by this thread, I took a ride up Stanserhorn yesterday. Highly recommended! I think all cable cars should have an open deck, itís an unbeatable experience. There were about 12 people going up and 30 going down so there was no scrambling for upper deck seats (well, itís standing room only there). It wasnít scary at all, it just fell so natural and close to nature.
The sky was crystal clear and the visitors were rewarded with one of the most gorgeous views I had ever seen (100 kilometers of the Alpine mountain range).

Re: Not for the faint hearted?

I live here, so typically haven't used it yet, although I have walked up Stanserhorn. The upper deck is much more expensive than the lower deck, and most of the ride up is in a rickety old venicular railcar.

Yes, half of the ride is in an old, wooden car but it is an oldtimer and it is really charming with the conductors in uniforms, etc. I loved it.
As for the prices, as far as I know, there is one price to go to the top, i.e. no difference between upper and lower deck.

Re: Not for the faint hearted?

I did the ride a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It's not scary and the views are awesome.

I agree that all cable cars should have this. I'm sure in time they will. Congrats to Stanserhorn for being innovative.

Other reasons for going to Stanserhorn:

1. Stans itself is a delight to walk through.
2. You can see a wall of skulls located in the basement of the church.
3. The restaurant has a slow-turning floor and it's self-service (prices are reasonable and the food is good)
4. They have marmots!
5. The view.
