My lil boy doesn't like Fish

I have a 14month-old son. He is very active and a good eater except fish.

I've tried to cook the fish in different ways: fried, baked, steamed, boiled and grilled... All rejected...

I've tried to change from one fish to another, from trout, to salmon, tuna and others... All rejected...

I've cooked with tomato, because he's just crazy with tomatoes. Still rejected.

So any moms out there who can give me suggestions? I would appreciate it.

Thanks! Have an awesome day to ya'll EF peepz! ^__^...

How about cooked fish mixed with mashed potato, with some cheese and breadcrumbs on top grilled?

May Dads contribute too or is this a sexist thread?

Try cooking the fish in orange juice and then blitzing with something bland like potatoes. Also, use white fish only - those you list are very strong tasting and oily

Otherwise - maybe he just doesn't like fish - its a very strong taste for little dudes

If he can distinguish a fish from all that mixed up foods, then you may have to consider.. You child is gonna be famous for something I don't yet.

Re: My lil boy doesn't like Fish

Definitely go with white fish - pangasius, tillapia, cod. And to start with, make sure all of the dark flesh (usually around the backbone) is gone, so that the fish tastes less "fishy".

Lots of adults won't eat fish either. Especially the stuff that tastes fishy.

Re: My lil boy doesn't like Fish

Some people don't like it.
Like me, it makes me physically ill. All seafood actually.
My mum never could cope with the taste of meat.
My brother can spot a bit of tomato in a plate of food like it's blood and he's a shark.
My father is the same with brassica's. (actually, my dad is allergic, comes out in hives, so it's medical rather than taste but....)
All from a young age.

Maybe just leave it for a little while and try again, if he continues to refuse for a year or so, then you know, he just doesn't like it.

Have you considered just not trying to force him to eat something he clearly doesn't like?

I'm pretty sure, from what you say, that your chances of success are low, but the chances of you putting him off fish for life are quite high.

FWIW I know several people who simply don't like fish, and can not explain what it is they don't like, but it's just like my dislike of goat's cheese - in a mild/fresh enough form, or in the case of fish if it's cooked in a nice enough curry-like dish, then it may just about be bearable, but will never be more than that.

Re: My lil boy doesn't like Fish

I love Annabel Karmel's fish pie recipe, http://www.annabelkarmel.com/recipes.../mini-fish-pie , and her fish fingers , http://www.annabelkarmel.com/recipes...e-fish-fingers (which you can use corn flakes instead of the rice krispies). My kid is picky in the extreme, but she eats both of these and even the curries she has. Her cookbook for the picky eater is always on the top of my pile.

Fish is hardly essential like oxygen or water. Stop hassling the little superstar.

Yes, I do... We love fish and all other seafood... ^^

When I was pregnant with my boy, one of my craving was fish and dried fish (yes, that stinky dried fish... )...

I agree. Don't stress if he doesn't like something at this stage. Stop trying and wait a few months.

My son visibly shuddered and spat it out when I first tried him with broccoli but he eats it with gusto now.

When you are ready to try again, have a go with fish fingers (fish sticks as they are known here). Most kids will scarf them down not realising they are fish. Once he's got the taste of them, you can try other more "sophisticated" fish dishes.
