Re: Touristic season nightmare or gift?

Before I came here, I lived in central London for many years. London is, obviously, full of tourists especially in the Spring and Summer. However, the city has always been a tourist attraction and has evolved (and been designed) to cope. So I never found it a problem.

Re: Touristic season nightmare or gift?

Yubb, fully agree
Tourists = Bad
Tourism = Good

Hmm, kind of reminds me of something similar..... oh yes
Work = Bad
Salary = Good

But dont forget, you dont have to go far from you own town and then you yourself are a tourist

I am happy I live now in a smal town, not so many tourists. Back in Allschwil it was even better I rarely saw any people!
How are you doing now in Barcelona? That must be a nightmare

Re: Touristic season nightmare or gift?

There are more pickpockets than tourists in Barcelona. I think they get classed as "self-employed"

Re: Touristic season nightmare or gift?

Personally, it's not much of an issue up here in smug-ville (aka Unterageri) - we only really have to deal with the commoners escaping from foggy Zug (sorry Lance ).

But they are at least swiss, and they usually bring exotic cars and bikes with them, which is fine, as it makes for fun viewing. You can never have too many e-types, old merc or ancient bonnies afterall. The two wheeled 1950's tractors (aka Harleys) I could do without though.

It's a hobby (car/bike spotting) I enjoy with my 4 month old son but he hasn't quite picked up the difference between a Willy CJ3A and a CJ3B just yet. His inability to tell the differences between a 1098R and a 1198S is more alarming though - I'm beginning to question if we're even related...

Re: Touristic season nightmare or gift?

Re. Ticino. If you live on the west side of Lake Maggiore avoid using the road which goes down to Luino on Wednesdays. The Summer traffic heading to the Luino market is definately a nightmare. Now I come to think of it, the road from Bellinzona to Locarno is pretty hellish a lot of the time, but also qualifies as a nightmare during the tourist season. Distancewise not that far, but crawling nose to tail can take ages.

Re: Touristic season nightmare or gift?

Definitely a gift.
I used to live in a small coastal town in W.Australia. Every summer the windsurfing tourists would arrive around December for the waves and wind that made our little town famous. That was the start of the party season for us locals, lots of new hard bodied guys and gals all looking for a good time in and out of the water. It was heaven. In the end I got caught though and am now living in Switzerland, paying for my sins, thankfully it's at a better tax rate.

Horrible.

I can't go in many part of the town because it is so jam pack of people that it is impossible to have things done. They stop in the middle of side walk, takes pictures everywhere, the price of appartments are insane because of the banks but also because of the tourism.

The amount of appartment rented for tourists is so high that it makes very difficult for locals to find a nice one.

It's not the same if the tourists season lasts only a couple of weeks or if a small town has to cope with masses of tourists and party time all over the year. That's definetly not funny when you are working regularly.
