The Swiss are apparently well known for wearing red shoes (can't say I've seen many).
This is an article by Diccon Bewes who wrote 'Swiss watching'.
See number 3.

http://www.dicconbewes.com/2010/06/0...-to-swissness/
When I read this thing of Mr D.B., I carefully looked round, and had real problems to detect any people with read shoes ! And about white socks etc, this is what people say about those from the Canton of Aargau. I am sure, it is rubbish also. Back to Mr D.B., I suppose his "red shoes" are a bit of applied British humour, and not to be taken too seriously. There in his book are some other statements clearly not meant too seriously.

After 17 years and now dual national...62%.

Still bugs me the peeps who reserve seats before getting their lunch
But logic dictates that you first secure your place, and then get your drink, and then, you get to the meal

Not always ! It of course is better, for example a lamb-steak bien-cuit. But with Cervelats I connect many nice memories of school-outings etc

Re: How Swiss are you?

Totally black and charred, on a stick with a cross cut at both ends with dad's Swiss Army knife (the real thing - not bought at the airport shop).

My dad was a cyclist in the army - still got his bike from the 30s, lol. Sorry, I digress - happy times.

The "real" thing we got in 1972 was that silvery rubbish, not even having a bottle opener. In reality, everybody had TWO pocket knifes, the official silver one for inspection-purposes and a real one for real use.

I now use the black very practical one we got at the end of the last service from our captain, and another one I got from Planzer Transport with an extra-long blade which when open is fixed and secured and can only be put back by using both hands. The combination of them is perfect

If I grill a Cervelat it not only has the cross at both ends but various cuts on the sides as well. And then lots of mustard ...

First the name. Wilhelm was the idea of Mr Schiller who wanted a frist name widespread in all German speaking areas. Tell however was the idea of Mr Goethe, who among his many languages had Arabic, and knew what Tell means

Second the story. There in reality at the time were a number of rebels around who killed some local governors of the Empire. Emperor Albrecht after the death of Rudolf II had given order to terminate the local autonomy his father had given to some territories in what became Switzerland later.
