Can you drink straight from the tap in Switzerland?

Hi guys,
I'm gonna be living in Lausanne, and I was wondering if it'd be safe to drink water straight from the tap? Or do you guys recommend a filter system like Brita?

Thank you.

It all depends on how many little kiddies have been swimming in the lake, that day.

Don't listen to Rob, he's just joking. It usually takes at least 36 hours.

Re: Can you drink straight from the tap in Switzerland?

Studies have shown that it only causes the following side-effects:

  • A sensitive epiglottis which results in a sound similar to a cat coughing up a fur ball;
  • A hatred of foreigners
  • Stiffness; and
  • Rectal bleeding

That comes from breathing the air. It has nothing at all to do with the water...

Re: Can you drink straight from the tap in Switzerland?

Yes, you can drink tap water here. This includes water from fountains, except the ones with a "non potable"/"Kein Trinkwasser" (or similar) plaque on them.

Making your own club soda with tap water as opposed to buying cases of it (and possibly paying for delivery) can also be very much cheaper, depending on how much water/club soda you consume.

So by drinking Swiss tap water you:

1. Learn to speak arabic
2. Become republican
3. Belong to the british upper-middle class

Quite a lot of side-effects there

Well beer is about 94% water.

Of course American beer is nearer 99% water.
