First few days in Geneva - impressions

I just thought I would provide my unsolicited thoughts on our first few days in Geneva. Might be handy for people making, or thinking making, a move here.

1. Fantastic weather. I know it is prime time of the year but this week has been amazingly food.
2. The locals have been outstanding helpful and friendly. I don't know if it is an aberration due to holidays and great weather but not what we expected and couldn't ask for better service.
3. Service in shops has been incredibly good, staff helpful and efficient and good natured. None of the expected surliness observed.
4. Prices are not as bad as I expected but I translate everything into AUD which is at a record high. Oz just as expensive at the moment apart form meat. The prices for meat are mind boggling, mad, high, off the richter scale.
5. Infrastructure first class. Roads, footpaths etc all impeccably maintained and the town is spic and span. Walking and driving a pleasure. No traffic, but expect this to worsen post holidays.

Hoping it lasts.......

Re: First few days in Geneva - impressions

Seconf few Months in Geneva

1. Cold, rainy, pissy weather.... Will last most of the year. This is the sunniest year on record.
2. Locals will figure out your not a tourist and wonder why you, as a bloody foreigner, dont go home.
3. Service has been great because its been a sunny few weeks. The mood in CH rolls with the weather.
4. Prices are far worse in AUD. Wait till AUD drops 30%. AUDCHF is the same chart as ISM. ISM looks on path to go to 40. Also the SNB has to depeg very soon. But for the moment you should be able to enjoy yourself
5. Sure, roads pretty darned good.....!

Set your expectations low and you wont be disappointed

My first few days in Switzerland were great! Everybody called me "sir" and the locals offered to carry my bags and park my car for me........Oh wait, that was in a hotel, never mind.

The roads better be good, they have been doing road work outside my apartment the entire summer!

And since the weather is so good they have to start between 6-7 in the morning

wait until you get to visit Lausanne, Berne, Lucerne or Zurich... one of the things I dislike the most from Geneva is its dirtyness probably caused by having too many frenchs living there.

I look forward to it. It is noticeable that as soon as I cross the border (3kms away) to France the standard does drop.

Good to see you are enjoying it and this makes a change from the usual rants on here.

Keep it up, don't listen to the haters and make the most of your time there! Plenty of things to do and opportunities.
