Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

Tennessee in 1995 - around 40c but the most memorable was when I fell asleep in the sun in Athens , woke up feeling red hot ( and boy was I red)
Doctor was called and made me strip off and I was covered in yogurt - and made to rest - and it took all the heat away.

Are you sure he was a real doctor?

Bit of a personal question Edit..Just noticed Mirfield got there first

Seriously,

Probably here in Switzerland in 2003, 34 degrees plus.
How do people survive in temperatures above 40 degrees?
Just changed my mind...

This afternoon, in our flat, ironing.

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

I think that humid heat is worse for a couple of reasons. You get wetter quicker because the sweat doesn't evaporate. Nothing is worse than wet sweaty clothes. The other thing about humid heat is that it doesn't usually lend itself to really cool down at night. The air stays think and moist. I would take 38 in Switzerland over 38 in Georgia any day.

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

The other horrid thing about humid heat is when you need a shower. You get out and just can't get dry so you end up a sticky mess as your anti-perspirant turns to a mush and you feel like you haven't washed in weeks. Way to spoil a night out before you've even started.

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

43 degrees sitting on the verandah of my grandmothers house in Adelaide, when the desert wind blows off shore. Low humidity. We went swimming, soon as you get out of the water you have about 3 seconds of feeling cool, then the water on your skin turns warm before it evaporates and you are back to square one.

32 degrees, 90% humidity in Sydney late summer, felt worse than the dry heat. I don't mind the 'heat' here at all - soon as the sun goes, the temperature drops and it's cool and pleasant...

I've spent far too many Sydney summers sweltering when the house is lucky to go below 25 degrees overnight, and the cicadas are belting out their tunes, and it's not even dark yet and mum's sent us to bed because it's already way past our bedtime...

If we get just one 30 degree days when it rains mid-afternoon then goes hot again, it will almost feel like home, just missing the smell of the salt air...

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

I've experienced a temperature range from a bit above +100 C in a sauna to a bit below -32 C outside, but fully clothed I prefer to stay below +28.

This summer in Switzerland is probably the hottest weather I've been in.

Exactly! And try applying make up to a face that has rivulets running down it ... (you probably don't) ... and then there's my beautifully blow-dried straight hair that turns to frizzy ringlets within about ten minutes of going outside

Ah. That dragged through a hedge backwards look.

Without the debauchery to make it all worthwhile.

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

This is making living in Phoenix look a doddle by comparison to some of the places mentioned. So far August (the worst month, apparently) has been in the 40-43 range mostly, but of course with air-conditioned everything. I'm just staying in mostly, like Swiss Januarys, and nipping out every now and again to fling myself in the pool for half an hour. It's not as bad as I feared.

Yeah, Tuborg, I think it's gotten generally hotter over the years since I left, but at least they do have air conditioning to help cope. What were you there for - business or pleasure trip?
We went to visit my brother in law and stay with him for about 5 weeks. I was expecting - pardon the expression - to be staying in the ar*e end of nowhere ( Norman, OK ) but, hand on heart, Oklahoma was stunning. Wonderful people, great food and breathtaking views.

And the steak in the Old Plantation Restaurant in the Wichita Mountains Refuge...wow. Just wow. I doubt if I will have a better steak in my life again.

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

Angkor Wat, Cambodia. Temp was around 45 but the 95% humidity was the killer.

Top Tip for anyone who wants to go there: One of the most impressive touristic spots I have seen in my life, but really really check the season!

Re: What's The Hottest You've Ever Been?

Orlando, and I got even hotter screaming going down the Magic Mountain. Rides get me slightly freaked out.

Anyways, I don't like the unusual temp extremes since I wonder if it is us humans messing up the climate. It was a Czech temp record yesterday in all history. Must be manky in the subway, but the incorrectly built windy tunnels must be now nicely breezy.

Then on the iceberg in Canadian Rockies, the sun was fierce.
