I don't want to burst your bubble but Zurich has some horrendous traffic as well.
No doubt, but it's a much smaller place.

Can even be 58 CHF with the 1 day travel pass for the half price card...after 09.00. And you can multibuy those as well, 6 for the price of 5. Many many ways to make the best fare.....
Or just get yourself a GA and enjoy the freedom.

You can have all of Switzerland in the first class for less than you pay for a season ticket for something like Guildford - London in the standard class.

Re: What's the biggest advantage of living in Switzerland ?

- For some it's higher salaries and lower taxes with a high QOL and more savings (if that's an objective).
- Depending on the country of origin, living and working in Switzerland might be a status symbol.
- Excellent basic public infrastructure.
- Possibly an opportunity to learn 3-4 languages if your kids go to school here.
- Great for those who like winter sport and picturesque alpine scenery.
- Generally anonymous even for celebrities. I think the paparazzi have less freedom here and the culture tends to be privacy focussed.
- Wonderful for introverts or people who like quiet and securely predictable lives.
- Great place to tone down excessive extroverts.

To be fair: there are mountains on both sides, a lake at the front and two rivers in the middle. Then it is full of historical buildings that cannot be moved just because we started using cars a lot lately... so there is not that much a planner could do, is there?

I commuted into the city from the side which is in the traffic report every single morning. Unless there is something exceptional have I not witnessed any jam over 30 mins in Zurich. And that is in the rush hour. Even if there are accidents do the cops get the traffic flowing really quickly (I have once been in a jam caused by a cattle transport that flipped over - with a dead cow on the highway. THat took a bit longer, but otherwise is traffic in CH really fine except of the Gotthard). There are really worse places...

Re: What's the biggest advantage of living in Switzerland ?

The biggest advantage of living in Switzerland?

Well.. that would be the one factor that would have to change in order for me to leave (again), right?

Then it's clearly money. If my salary wasn't much higher than anywhere else I would like to live I'd expatriate immediately.

There are lots of other factors I appreciate here, but none is big enough to truly outweigh benefits other countries have as well.
