Need suggestions - websites other than ricardo

Hi all,

I am looking for some websites other than ricardo.ch for selling things, as I've heard that on ricardo, you are not bound to pay for your won auction unlike ebay. Did somebody have any bad experience when selling on ricardo? In particular, I would like to sell a treadmill.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I am not sure what you mean when you say buyers are not bound to pay. If you mean without having the product, them I have had that happen with ebay. Hopefully either site, they let you know as soon as possible, so you can then reclaim back your selling fees, but not the listing fees & of course you can then offer to the next bidder or re-list.
To be clear if you are posting from either site, you should get payment first.
No idea how heavy your treadmill is, what would it cost to post? maybe offer pick up only or as well, as any postage cost can detract from the selling price. I think ricardo is fairer to the seller if an auction item. With ebay the last higher bidder usually wins it. With ricardo they sometimes let it run and run depending on the last bid timing.
It is worth checking either site for their selling fees for this item, as well at the other site mentioned in this tread. Also worth checking what prices each site gets for this item.

good luck

Where did you hear that?

In Switzerland, and on Ricardo, winning an auction is a binding contract.

1.3.2 Angebot

a) Auktionen:

I think Ricardo is an excellent place to sell your treadmill. You never have the same issues that you might encounter on Ebay. People tend to be fair and just. Sometimes I have even been sent the item I've won... before paying it.:D

You could also post it on here. :msnnerd:

Do agree with you prefer Ricardo, and have had some great buys, but have also had 2 not good experiences. (1) we were buying a 2nd-hand laptop as wanted spares to repair/upgrade a friends. We were sent another, plus had lower spec. The seller insisted they sent the one as advertised. Could not be bothered to keep arguing so re-sold it with correct description, lost a few chuffs, but not worth losing sleep over. the 2nd time got an item, the seller had not packed correctly, it was cracked so not usuable, they said take it the Post. The Post said seller had not packed correctly and sent it back. We are still waiting some months down the line for the return of 100+ CHF, might sent a reminder in the next week, but she was a horrid person. All other dealings have been good, so more Happy.

Re the binding contract quoted by Sbrinz - not much one can do if the buyer vanishes off the horizon, sends a message apologising, child press bid button etc - sometimes it is easier to relist or offer to next bidder

For me the attraction of Ricardo is you register and they send you the password by post, so every person has had their address checked when they joined up. All the other sites do not check up on members, and you could very easily be dealing with someone living outside Switzerland.

Thanks a lot to all of you for the suggestions. One of my friend's friend have had bad experience with ricardo so I was not sure about it. That's why I asked about any negative experiences with Ricardo. But I think, I can now place my listing on Ricardo :).

Thanks ! The treadmill weighs around 88 Kg so I think sending it by post would not be economical, though I haven't checked . So I am thinking , I will list the item on Ricardo saying "buyer has to pick it up".

I have already posted it here :) but I didn't get any response yet so I am trying to maximize my chances of selling it by posting on other websites.

If you have posted it on Ricardo you should not post it somewhere else before the auction/sale period has ended. If you make your item unavailable to a bidder/winner because you sold it to someone else, you will certainly get some bad reps.

Also....you may think that you have the best item ever and that a lot of people are interested and thus let the auction start at 1 CHF. However, a lot of good stuff have been sold for almost nothing because of that exact same reason.
So put your absolute minimum price as your starting price....nothing less.

Sorry for the late reply. Actually, it is absolutely good for anybody up-to 120 kg. I am about 80 kg and its perfect for me. You are welcome to try it if you want. I have just sent a PM to you.
