Re: SOS! American and Canadian expats make yourself heard!

if it were so easy you wouldn't get a degree afterwards for doing it

Good luck.

I can't help you out as I live in SG and don't work. Is working a requirement, too? You didn't mention that initially but then you did say it didn't matter if you lived in Fribourg as long as you worked there?

Just to say there are many expats in Fribourg - stadt and kanton - it's just that you chose the wrong side of the pond for your subject matter.

Totally agree, my professor from the beginning told me its gonna be challenging especially to write about self-initiated expatriates as this is a new under researched pool of expats and I accepted it cause I didnt want to just do a literature review!

The expat has at least to work in the canton of Fribourg ass 5 days a week he spend it here even if living in a different canton and it would be just right to assess its integration at the working place as well as social circle!

Now I have to stick to it, as I mentioned before i chose North American pool for their cultural distance when compared to Swiss. Maybe you know some North Americans working in the canton FR

Re: SOS! American and Canadian expats make yourself heard!

Try some of the foreign Firms in fribourg, such as Alcon, Meggit and Verisign. They would have a large proportiion of foreign staff, some of who might well be American and Canadian.
For a laugh, why not try Fribourg-Gottéron hockey club? They have 3 Canadian and 1 US player at the moment (or is it 2 and 2, not sure if Kwiatkowski is US or Can?).

Thank you for your insight. I emailed Alcon, waiting for a reply...visited Bulova, KPMG, Bayer International and no luck only in KPMG I found a Canadian and yesterday got an interview, wohoo me, Ill try Meggit and Verisign as well as Tupperware!

For a laugh or not but you never know maybe its a good idea.

Re: SOS! American and Canadian expats make yourself heard!

Fribourg Cardinals - American Football Club.

Possibility that the coach (possibly other backroom staff) are from US/Can.

Swiss-Canadian, as I understand, so not sure if that counts (one of the players is half n' half too), but that reminds me the assistant coach is Quebecois.

Edit: also Fribourg Olympic basketball, they always have some US players.

Look through the "introductions" section here at the EF. I seem to recall a number of newbies moving to Fribourg, and likely some of them are from North America.

Re: SOS! American and Canadian expats make yourself heard!

I'm US/CAN citizen and would be glad to help but, like grynch, live in VD and work in GE.

Just a piece of advice: you'd have probably gotten a more representative response from the EF community if you had included "working in Fribourg" in your thread title.

I would be happy to, but I don't live or work in Fribourg.
