SOS! American and Canadian expats make yourself heard!

Hello everyone,

I really need your help. I am a Master student in European Business at University of Fribourg.

Currently Iím writing my master thesis about North American expatriates and for part of this I need to interview people concerning their experiences.
The topic of my thesis is: "The integration process of expatriates in Switzerland. An explorative study, in the canton Fribourg, between assigned and self-initiated expatriates."

The discussion takes approximately 20-40 mins and I usually record them in order to make it faster. When I finish the transcript, I will send it to you, so that you can confirm that you agree with what is written.

Are there any Canadians and Americans expats in the canton Fribourg? Or maybe you have friends or know someone who has friends who work in Canton Fribourg and are expats from Canada and USA????

Thank you.

The canton of residence is not so important but the expats/inpats have to work in the canton of Fribourg

I suppose it could have been worse: you could have been trying to do a study of polar bears in Africa

Can't you switch cantons to one with a greater number of expats? Bern and Vaud are teaming with them and relatively close to you I imagine

PS What is the "4 out of 12"? What is the 12?

Exactly. Why such an odd, nearly unobtainable selection criteria. If really want to study the integration process of expats in CH, why choose Fribourg? I beleive the statistics will clearly show that there are much more likely expats in places like ZH or GE. And if want to study the 'integration process of expats' why just north american expats.

I'm starting to wonder if this is just a clever ploy to lead Americans ( and Candians.. no one can tell us apart ) to their deaths...

Have you gotten in touch with the Fribourg Expat Women's Group (http://www.fewgroup.org/)?

I'm pretty sure that some of the members could qualify as participants in your study.

Good luck!

I'm laughing at the subject line because, you know, we Americans rarely have troubles making ourselves heard.

Its a good point, when I started looking for expats I realized its gonna be complicated cause the expat pool in in canton FR is very limited.

Ps. I made only 4 interviews out of 12, and today I made another one, wohoo me

Im using a qualitative approach, that is why I have to make just 12 interviews. I chose North American expats due to its cultural distance compared to Switzerland, sure it would be much easier to choose French, Germans and Italians. Another reason is that north American were the first to expatriate. Now that I struggle in finding expats in canton FR Ill have to contact my professor and ask him to expand the research on Swiss Romandie
