Are all comments so void because the photo hasn't been pulled to the right?
Doubt it. Scrolling to the right reveals perhaps half a dozen pieces of litter.

Reading the other posts, and this one, it would seem that the OP is being taken seriously. I had assumed the OP was just trying to be funny, pointing out that, for CH, a few bits of litter is as dirty as it gets, whereas almost any other city that would be as clean as it ever gets just after it's been cleaned.

Re: Zurich street garbage?

I agree with the OP. Especially around public places, littering is a serious issue. Also, IMO another area, where Mercer fails to truly collect meaningful data. Compare Zurich HB with Paris gare d'est for instance and you find the 2 places worlds apart.

Ummm... which bit of Zurich HB is messy?

Came up through the underground bit this morning (platforms 22 / 23) into the main hall and it was clean as a whistle. This is despite the fact they had some big bash on yesterday in the new site for the Europa Allee. Are you commenting about the mess made by the building operations?

The last time I was in Paris, there wasn't much litter but the smell of drains in the Gare du Nord didn't allow me to linger too long to look for it.

You've got to be kidding me. Go upstairs and walk around a bit. It's full of ciagrette butts, gum, wrappers from random snacks. The place looks like some soviet era hell hole...dark, grubby and smelly.

Come off it. Open your eyes when you're in Paris will you. Stop attacking Zurich just for the sake of attacking it!

Re: Zurich street garbage?

This is really nitpicking. It is one thing to say that Zurich used to be cleaner (don't know about that!) but there are so many worse places for litter. Unfortunately I have to cite my home town of Dublin. I was there recently and it was really bad. One of the problems was that householders now have to pay to buy stickers for the rubbish, but they don't want to, and just dump it anywhere. But another general problem is people just littering..Zurich is heaven litter-wise compared to there....

Spotless? It's grubby, ugly and certainly filthy. Take off them pink shades for a minutes if you have the chance. If this is the city with one of the highest living standards, then humanity is in dire need of this apocalypse. You've got to be kidding me. Spotless.

However, regarding rubbish on the streets, i think Switzerland is amazingly clean, walking along the Utiliberg and you will be hard pressed to find a used cigarette butt, let alone the plastic bags in trees that litter a lot of the English Countryside.
That's because most smokers have a hard-time getting up there.

There appears to be more than when I first arrived, but still much better than other countries.
Did you know that recently they picked 23 tons of rubbish off Brighton beach, left behind over 1 weekend.....?

Are you serious or just making a joke? Go to Langstrasse at 6am on Sunday morning. That will maybe open your eyes a little!

I was checking out Zurich on wikipedia and found this pic of Bahnhofstrasse. I was horrified by the amount of garbage on the ground on the right part of the pic. Paper and bags, and the street bench in the background has discarded garbage too.

How is this possible in a world famos city like Zurich? Why isn't anyone doing something about it? I've been to London, Paris, Tokyo and Milan and never saw something like this.

tbhonest: if zurich was like singapore it would be way more boring. a bit of waste gives me the feeling that people LIVE in this place! in this bhfstrasse pic, yes there is "garbage" lying on the ground but this is gone the same day! people compare it with london... this city has not even bins to throw shit away and excuses that with lame IRA that bombed a lot with cars. zurich is clean. fin.

They can take the S10. It's electrified, so it's clean energy...
