(Un)smart phone users.

One of the women that I work with is continuously ( in the rest breaks, lunch breaks) occupied with her Smart phone-both talking and also just playing with it. I find it unsocial. To have any conversation with such a person is impossible because they are continually looking or fiddling with their Smart phone. Any suggestions?

It looks like she prefers her cyber friends rather than talking to you so why bother with her, just ignore her from now on.

Well no but sometimes she's the only one when we have our work breaks or lunch breaks.

Maybe she has no interest in talking with you, even if you're the only person there. In any case, why force your conversation on someone who clearly doesn't want to talk to you?

Re: (Un)smart phone users.

I understand what you mean, but I do think that she's probably just not interested in talking to you, sorry.
It's a massive problem with my generation... we're just too 'connected' but not connected at all. I've never understood the obsession with taking so many pictures. I met someone who just kept taking photos all evening, even though she was the one 'hosting' people, and was uploading them to facebook at the moment. To me, this is completely bizarre... you should enjoy people you're with. Why people feel the need to put all their photos on facebook, I don't think I'll ever really understand.

Facebook statuses too. I use facebook, and sometimes put daft statuses, but really, some people put their lives on the internet. I always used to think that people that talked a lot never really had much to actually say, I think these days it's more relevant with the internet on sites like Fbook.

Maybe we're so concerned with being connected globally, we forget to live in the here and now and live 'locally'.

Just be grateful that there isn't such a thing as a Smart Dildo-Phone ...... if there was, you - or any other man - would never get a look in (let alone, anything else)

Re: (Un)smart phone users.

Fiddling with a phone is just the same as reading a book: a gentle hint that conversation is neither necessary nor desired.

A gentleman should always take the hint and stfu.

Re: (Un)smart phone users.

If I don't want to enter into a conversation, I try to make myself look busy with something... A book, my phone, etc.

My wife took over 10k photos during our two-week trip to the US, but she does come from a family of professional photographers, so it's in her blood.

There already is!

http://www.edrants.com/available-in-...ay-the-idildo/

Utilizing groundbreaking iTechnology, you too can get in touch with your inner narcissist with technological options that you don’t really need. The iDildo is now available in several sizes, wherever iProducts are sold! The iDildo comes with several adjustable settings: Slow and Bored (an ideal mode for chronic time wasters), Medium Rare, and Fast and Frenetic. Optional audio settings provide you with an experience that you will never forget, better than a Sybian. Our EULA will ensure that the only orgasms you are legally entitled to experience are those effected by the iDildo, which have been perfected in our iLabs after our boys went through $200 million in R&D money. (Should you snag a lover in defiance of our terms, our attorneys will prosecute.)

Or she's a smart phone addict, which isn't so smart.

10k photos over two weeks. that's 714 a day.
over a 12 hour day, that's 60 per hour. that's one every minute.

kudos to you for bringing her back with you

or another way to look at it: 10k @ 8 frames per second ~ 21 minutes of taking photos

Re: (Un)smart phone users.

I have had similar experiences when I used to be a restaurant manager in the US. My servers had a prompt-greeting standard to meet, and they would opt not to interrupt a diner's phone conversation/reading, instead making eye contact, smiling and nodding politely while approaching the table, to indicate that "I am your server."

However, I could not keep track of the times where someone would carry a conversation on for 5-10 minutes, suddenly slam the phone shut/hang up, and then begin to complain about not being served.

My servers were well trained and would never be so rude as to interrupt a conversation; however, if you DO want service, you should take the 10 seconds required to place a drink order. You'll find that your drink will be brought and quietly placed in front of you. Once you finish your call, your server will come as quickly as possible to take your order. Simple.
