This time of year a plate of venison, spätzle, red cabbage and chesnuts with a thick blood and red wine gravy always goes down a treat, and for me, is so typical of this damp, dank, dark weather.
Indeed, but tonight it's "parasol mushroom" parmagiana (to use up the rest of the mushroom schitzels from last night), sauce from the last of the garden tomatoes.

Re: What are your autumn comfort foods?

Evening snack of cheese on toast - nice and bubbly and smeltzly, smeared with some home-made pickle.
Maybe a bit extravagant using some of grumpy's Godminster (picked up fresh on Saturday), but anything other than a good flavoursome cheddar, just doesn't come close.

schützenwurst with bacon and cheese, have one or two of those puppies after a couple of beers and you won't be able to move for a week.

Moderation is key. ;-p

I just made pumpkin soup with Thai curry. Unfortunately, my new curry paste was hotter than the old and it was a touch too spicy. But still ...mmmmmm

Red. I also put in some coconut milk, shallots, lime and fish sauce. Haven't tried it with green.

Re: What are your autumn comfort foods?

So - what are this year's autumn comfort foods?

I'm not into pumpkin, so... some ideas are

- goulash
- chicken, carrots and noodles baked with tomatoes and cream
- blueberry cheesecake, carrot muffins
- chäschnöpfli with loads of onions and some type of dark meat
- nut ice-cream, nut cake, nut desserts, nut sauces...
- cheese on toast with a side of bündnerfleisch and a hot drink
- pies served hot/warm out of the oven

Re: What are your autumn comfort foods?

Soggy, warm and spicy stuff. Soups! I had vegan and tasteless spinach and green lentil soup at uni cafe the other day and realized I have to get back to bringing my own soups. Hmmmm. This is my latest new recipe I tried.

Homemade hot cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven - eating one right now

warm slightly gooey dough, sugar and cinnamon, soft top...

So far, chili con carne and lovely vegetable soups. Probably time for onion soup as well and the roasted vegetables to come soon!
